Upgrade Shock!!

#1

I’m in a little bit of shock!..I just received an email telling me the standard upgrade price in 2 days from 6.5 to 7.0 is $449.00…for 2 days there is a $50 discount.

There is no info on what I will be getting for my $449…I really think EI needs to get just a little smarter when it comes to marketing. If anyone thinks I’m going to just send money without a very good idea of what has been added and how well it has been implemented they have something else coming.

Come on guys (EI)…that’s a very pricey upgrade and then not telling me what is there is just not acceptable.

Truthfully, I would like to support the company but at that price I really am going to consider what other options I have…and their proven record and potential longevity.

Hi Paul,

First, re-read your email. The $50.00 off will be good until v7 ships.
Second, I would appreciate if you have questions or a problem with my (our) system of notification, I would much prefer if you would just email me or call me, instaed of posting your complaints!! on a forum. I am not hard to reach and never have been, and if can’t answer a question, I get an answer for you from someone who can. (Yes our v7 pages are not posted yet. I am just giving users a chance to upgrade and be first on the list for a cheaper price.)

My Best to everyone

The first line says - if you upgrade today or tomorrow. That’s two day to me.

You know Phil, these are honest reactions from a long time user - if they aren’t voiced here they still are being thought and I would think you would appreciate being able to deal with them publically. I know I am not the only one who is or will think these thoughts.

I don’t have any trouble with your noticifaction but honestly have a problem with the price of the upgrade.

You need more users…you will make more money with more users. Charging $449 for a .5 upgrade is not going to attract a lot of strong interest from guys who have EI but only use it time to time. You need them toi upgrade.

Now if the feature list was long and well implemented and offered some great value you wouldn’t see any disagreement from me. I have no idea why this upgrade is the most expensive I have seem from EI.

And this $449 upgrade are for…?
Eek!
You are not alone Paul.

I would have to agree that the feature list for v7 should be released so that the upgrade cost can be evaluated.

I did not get the Email yet. I too am surprised of the upgrade price for I was expecting it to be around 300$. Then again it could be the deal of the century for I have no idea of what will be included. Somehow, I think I will be pleased…

Lets hope so…

Hello again,

We have not made a public announcement of the v7.0 upgrade. It should be coming by the end of the week. It will include screenshots, videos, images, feature lists, and other details. Because of the rush caused by a new upgrade we have sent an email to a few of our user lists that included an early offer to place an upgrade order. This upgrade offer allows you to puchase EIAS 7.0 with a discount of $50. For EIAS 6.6 users that makes the upgrade price $299 and EIAS 6.5 and previous users the price $399.

Paul, for you because of your previous help with EITG I offered you an additional $50 coupon bringing your price to $349. Our discount offer will be available to the public and will run until EIAS ships. Again, if you were confused by the email it would have been appropriate for you to reply to the email.

We do appreciate your continued use of EIAS and hope you can continue to support our software.

Best regards,

Phil…the first thing I did was to send you an email. I received no reply.

Hello Paul,

I unfortunately received no reply. I sent the email to you under the impression you were aware of v7.0 features as in the past you were usually privvy to such details. I will obviously extend your offer until you have more time to evaluate and review the new features of v7.0.

Thanks again!

Best regards,

That is an expensive upgrade and most of the shaders won’t work on the Intel Macs. I have yet to ever use my 6.6 version.

#11

I was aware of only a few features but that’s about all…you know, I actually thought the email I received was just an email going out to your user-base letting them know they can get a little bit of if they act today or tomorrow.

Why?..is there a modeler hiding in the upgrade list somewhere? With a modeler in EI then I could see the price.

#12

I am not sure if there is anything hidden. But several announcements over the next few weeks should make many people excited. Maybe even you!

#13

LOL…well, I like to be excited!

Mind you it, it does take considerable amounts to have that occur. But, I am perfectly willing to get excited about EI and the new features which will be there.

#14

Looking forward to the end of the week, hey, that’s tomorrow!

#15

Secrecy’s always been a big thing for EIAS, but come on - the end of the week is tomorrow! Why hold off on a feature list at this point?

#16

Being on a pc myself, naturally I would only be using Vs 6.5 and not 6.6. Wasn’t 6.6 just for those working on the Mac? So PC users have to pay more for the upgrade?
I suppose the price of $449 is ok if there are a lot of new features…

This is EIAS 7.0 Leotard, as Top Sekrit as Apple’s Leopard!

As much as I want to get the secret feature list so that I drown in a pool of drool or something, the promised multilayer output formats are enough for me to get this upgrade at that price. Wouldn’t mind seeing certain ACIS zombie rising from the grave (one can hope).

I love and respect Pauls work, let me say that right up front.
But I think anyone complaining about the upgrade price makes us look like a bunch of amateurs. You could go with any number of other packages that cost 7 - 8 - 9 hundred dollars for upgrades alone, and twice a year. I can promise you these packages rarely come out with substantial feature upgrades\addittions for the money. Of course you enter their world around 4-8 thousand dollars, a very nice world, but pricey. Its the upgrades to those packages that are immense and rarely offer much more than tweaks to existing features.

Its all relative people, We are going to get not just improved existing software, but WHOLE NEW CAPABILITIES (I believe). EI is playing catchup in many areas, and in my useless opinion, they are aggressively trying to tackle those areas. My upgrade is going to be 399. If I simply get dynamics capabilities and a few minor tweaks Id be happy. (I have a strong hunch theres much much more than that coming)

EI is by FAR the best bargain in Pro 3D out there, period. No offense to anyone, but if you cant afford EI you may need to consider leaving 3d all together as a Professional
anyway.

I cant wait for 7. I dont care if its a .5 upgrade or a 2x upgrade, its just a NUMBER, watch for the features they offer, thats what matters.

my 2 cents worth

Hey, you don’t have to like my work:-)

If the value is there in the upgrade then the value is there…accurate info on what is in the upgrade should be helpful to formulate an idea of worth for the individual.

I honestly hope it’s great and EI can start to build back a healthy user-base.

By the way, when-ever I quote a job I always work out with the client what they are getting for their money. I’m sure you do too…to do other-wise is plain foolishness.

That’s a good point, here’s what I think happened (I don’t actually know). Most other companies gave away UB upgrades for free, EITG being a small company needed to charge for this upgrade ($99) - As a thank-you for paying for what was essentially a compatibility upgrade, EITG would seem to be giving them that exact fee off version 7 - So Mac and PC users all end up paying the same in the end. My boss choked when he saw the prices, with the good old exchange rate it makes EIAS 7 cost about the same as a night out in London
