Upgrade from Surface Pro 2 to 3 Question

#1

Hey Guys I’m thinking about getting the Surface Pro 3 (leaning towards mostly) or Cintiq Companion to upgrade from my Pro 2. It’s getting long in tooth and I’m selling it cheap to my Bro who really needs something. So Suggestions, Only leary of the pen capabilities in PS, Sketchbook, Zbrush, Mud and TOonboom.

May try that program Mischief out too.

Pen works great, way better than wacom in my experience. I am not sure if Mudbox supports it at the current version though. I am sure the next version will because Autodesk is adding support but the current mudbox didn’t work when I tried it couple months ago.

Zbrush and everything else works great.

Cool, thanks… That’s good news! I own zbrush too so all good, think they’re coming out with an update soon too. I also recall reading somewhere that Adobe and Microsoft struck a deal

Thanks again, using my bros student discount to save 200 on the top teir one since I practically gave him my 2… So excited about a bigger one!
Hopefully the 4 won’t come out for at least a year.

One thing to consider with the SP3 and its n-trig digitizer is that YET there is no option for customizing the pens side buttons… For people used to wacom pens this can be a huge let down. There is a lengthy thread at ms surface forums.

The hub which was recently released, allows only the top button to be customized, but nothing with the side buttons. At surfaceproartist there are some utilities that allow radial menus and such.

One more question, should I get i7 out i5 if I end up getting one?

And you put it through it’s painting paces right Ali?
I imagine you have

i5 definitely. i7 is not worth the premium you pay for like %5 faster cpu which you won’t notice in any app.

So does the i5 with 256gb SSD come with 8GB RAM also, I know it says in the specs

Memory

64GB or 128GB version with 4GB RAM
256GB or 512GB version with 8GB RAM
But just wanted to verify that with you since that’s the one you have- for me the 8gb will come in handy if it works the way i plan.
