Undo Viewport Operation

Is there a blender equivalent to 3ds Max’s SHIFT+Z (Undo Viewport Operation)? I’ve been looking all over but have been unable to find any help.

The specific scenario is when I’m modeling from a certain angle, I rotate around the model to check something, then want to return to the previous viewing angle.

As far as I’m aware Blender does not have that feature.

Not directly, I am afraid. A couple of workarounds:

  • before orbiting to a different view, duplicate the view panel to a new window (VIEW–>DUPLICATE AREA INTO NEW WINDOW). That way you can continue modeling with the same angle. You can set up as many view panels as you require

  • add one or more cameras, and align the active camera to view. Then, with the camera view active, use “lock camera to View” in the view properties. With the numpad <0> you can now always switch back to the previous view. Add more cameras if required.
