Hi everybody !!

Starting a new project (since my last one past out sniff…)
Anyway , I’ve decided this to share with you people every step to make some changes , if you don’t like some parts etc…

First stage modelling…

awsome, Looking really promising already! interesting way to start the model… Though, It makes more sence then the way I do it! ill be watching this one!

#3

I love your works!
The start is interesting - which program do you use? Can we see your concept-scetches?
Keep it up, i`ll watch this one

#4

Neat, how does that work? Are you just copying edges and rotating them? Good start.

#5

Thank you guys,

TheWharGoul : yeah I love this technic to start, because we can have a good topology with lines very soon…

Grashupfa : Using maya , and no concept sketch , just following some funny stuff that I have in mind and of course some anatomy drawing for the muscles…

Gideon : Actually it’s edge extrusion and then move vertices to have a good line flow and also to only have quads

Next, work on the mouth and eyes :

#6

Intresting method. Never seen it before. Are you using a torus to help at the mouth? I always see new things… It sure will be nice when its done. How much time do you need to finish the modeling of the face with this technique?

#7

I don’t really know how much time do I need to finish it, it depends how many details you want…

I don’t think that’s a longer or faster method than another , it’s just seem pretty good for what I want (muscles description) so…But I’m very surprised that so many people don’t see that before…the method is very not new and many people use it am I wrong ? Anyway if some people learn a new thing , just makes me feel good

more again…gums and teeth.

#8

I love the method you used to create this face.

#9

looking good, the outer most eye socket (Where the face closes ito the eyes) dosent quite fit the face right, maybe reduce the way it flares out? overall nice modelling, I tried poly patch but always made a pigs arse of it, might try again

cheers,
Gordon

#10

It looks like Eddie!

#11

even though hes dead, the lines still look a bit harsh. Anyways, it looks cool, and thats an interesting way of head modelling, keep it up

#12

Ok thx people,

sarNz : yeah notice this too , I’ll try to softer these lines

Ben Johnson : That’s right I realise too but , it wasn’t on purpose , just following some anatomy sketch of head muscles, I guess Iron maiden did the same thing to create eddie for their covers lol

gordon7up : ok I’ll tweak that thx for the suggestion …

ShlizfesT : thx

#13

Nice to see you posting all the steps more or less:deal: . I’m wondering wether you’re using maya?

It’s exactly the workflow I imagined I’d want to use for poly modelling. Haven’t done that in Maya yet, but those green edges remind me of Maya. Looks like a very nice start!Glad to see it didn’t keep you down!!!

#14

Hey jmBoekestein !

Yeah that is maya …

Glad to see it didn’t keep you down!!!

Of course I didn’t keep it down, hope once I will be able to finish one work and post ine finshed gallery

Let’s keep modelling : lattice deformation .

hi there,

wow! you are a very good modeler! i like the model a lot. it looks really cool and your approach of modeling him is pretty interesting too. well done! keep it coming, want to see more! good work!

HI

I really like the model. I was just wondering how do u smooth the model in maya? Is it SUBD?
Or do you smooth it always and then hit ‘CTRL-Z’. Cause I got some problemes with that
Keep it up :bounce:

#17

Back-ups!!!

Make back-ups in a minute or two, CD-RW, or anything!:scream:

I was looking at the model with the mouth wide open, and it struck me that the forehead seems a little undefined. Maybe to small or maybe you could put some more skull penetration through the forehead skin, just a little bulge.

Learnt something new again, lattices.

BACK-UPS!!!:wise:

#18

fabianloing : Thx a lot man , and also your work is fantastic, love it.

Grashupfa : hum yeah you can do that or convert your mesh to subD, or use (I did this on this model for now) the smoothproxy to work with both lowmesh and smooth in the same time…
when it’s smoothed you can go back to unsmooth by putting the smooth level into 0 and then delete the history of your mesh… Otherwise , don’t see other method…

jmBoekestein : Lol ! Yeah you are so right, I’m gonna be very careful this time thx
about the forehead I’m not very worried about it because I’m gonna put some hair on it so…
I’m happy for the lattice thing

#19

Its excellent I have never seen that way of starting before. I learn something new every time I come here. Keep up the good work.

to whom it may concern:

Here’s a video tutorial on that technique (not entirely complete yet): http://www.luxology.com/education/tutorials/character/modeling_a_head/

It’s a tutorial for Modo, but can be used in any program with edge extrusion, I guess. At Simply lightwave they have a free tutorial on the same technique.
