i have part of a model that i am trying to bring into mudbox from maya,
i made this part with some mistakes, because i didnt know any better when making it.
i tried to mirror geometry by scaling to -1.
that obviously caused normals to be flipped.
now i am trying to import it into mudbox,
basicly in maya, befor exporting i flipped the wrong sided normals so they would be fine.
but in mudbox those flipped normals still are not oriented correctly,
i played with it a bit, and if i want to get a good result in mudbox, some of the face normals has to be flipped in the wrong direction so they would look normal in mudbox.
if i work in mudbox with the wrong sided normals, when i will try to get the texture and displacement back into maya, will this cause me trouble?
should i make the whole thing from scratch in maya befor exporting?

mudbox can only view faces they are facing in the right direction…
maya is able to show also “flipped” faces right…
to fix this:
go to the attribute spread sheet… there is a tab called render…
in these render is an attribute called opposit…
if these attribute is “on” maya will show flipped faces in the other direction…
turn it off and reverse the normals…
freezed the history before exporting…
