I’ve started on some of the Texturing on the Pot, first pass at the bump map. I’ll be adding designs on it and more bump detail.

very good, how are you going to do the prickleys’? It looks like you could cut back on some tris (the midsection of the pot could easily be reduced) and use them to make the pricklies.
Thxs Bazooka Tooth, I’ve been thinking about that since I made the concept. At first I was gonna go with that approach cut down on poly count and use single placed triangles for pricklies. But as I looked for reference on Cactus only certain Cactus have the sharp noticable prick coming out of it. As for the Tall desert cactus it looks more like a slight peach fuzz on the edge since the pricklies are so small and so many. I figured I can achieve this with the shading and not modeling just having a peach fuzz specular term.

Here is the bump design with a break down of the layering. Still plan to add some more wear and tear and crust on the surface.

Very nice, I really like the style of the work looks real sharp. I like the detail in the bump cant wait to see some more… awsome! I like your Idea about shading the pricklies i think it would make the cactus look soft and friendly but with a sharp bite. Nice stuff man

Here is a the Final Bump on the Pot with some sand crust on it since its out in the desert. And here is a simple test showing some SSS and fuzz on the cactus.


I was thinking that you could use a corner of your UV with an alpha and just do 1 tri to get aobut 3-5 pricklies as a double sided texture. I am interested in seeing how what you are doing with that turns out.

Looking good. Dont forget about the diffuse for the pot as well. The bump looks really high res right now, is it at 512 pixels?
I like to see what a bumpmap can do for the cactus.
Supervlieg Thx’s, I really like your Entrie. I’ve thought about the diffuse that will give it a more realistic look. But If iam not mistaken we can only have 3 maps color, spec, bump although maybe we can use the alpha on the color to store a diffuse map since we can have a color w/alpha.
Yea the bump looks High-res at the moment cause iam working at a higher rez 1024 1024 so when iam done I’ll have to downsize to 512 which most likely I’ll lose some detail :sad:
