UGAC - PROP 102 - ULTIMATE CRATE/BARREL - living_the_dream

#1

I think I’ll join in on the fun. Seeing how I just made a basic crate to test my model compiling skills for HL2…this seems like it’s right on time.

The game genre this is aimed at is a futuristic action-RPG. [Something like Deus Ex]
The basic idea for this barrel is that it is a container for two different Nanomachine Augmentations. It has two tenticle arms that wrap around the body of it and can unwrap to infuse the Nano-Augs in a person or exchange with another container. It also features a locking mechanism on top that locks in with the bottom of another one for easy stacking.

So far so good… i’d keep it more compact… like the proportions of your sketch tho.

thanks for the feedback thesuit!

I’m a little worried about the polycount–It weighs in at just over 900 tris right now. I’m hoping I didn’t go too crazy on the main cylinder’s poly resolution and that I can stay under 1000 for the whole thing. The arms are being modeled outward and will be wrapped and tucked in like the drawing once I get to giving them bones. I’m about to get back to work on it some more so check back soon for another update on the progress.

looks cool. i wonder how you can make the map with transparent goo inside. i wonder how would the model look with that blue liquid :applause:

Thanks for the encouragement fanton, I’m going to do something with alpha mapping and spec maps to hopefully pull that off. If I don’t get this project finished in time, you guys can cancel my entry but I will still try to finish this even if it doesn’t go to the competition, so keep on checking in next week when I get around to updating.
