hi all,

thought I’d have a bash at this one also, had think about what donkey kong would love to have had when battleing mario and came up with this, fairly basic its a barrel bomb. uploaded a basic outline of my concept. barrel contains enough TNT to blast mario into oblivion!!!

quick update, modelling nearly done, a few tweaks here and there then onto texturing, triangulated weighs in at about 700tris, should get this in at bout 500 with opimistation, maybe add some nice detail… also considering cell shading…

ok folks, unwrapped the model and begun texturing, currently working on the main barrel texture.

Remember

  You have a [b]1000[i]tris[/i] [/b]to work with...
  I would try to use as many as possible.

As far as the texture, The barrel part of it is coming along very nicely. Maybe you should add an old “TNT” logo on the wood?.. As far as the metal, this is the weakest part of the texture so far. Maybe you should add more detail such as dents and scratches.

thanks for the feedback devil, yeah its about 850 tris, so will probably hold it around there, working on the metal straps right now then onto the nose n fins.

you should add a fuse, i think it’s called. that wire you use to ignite the rocket. somewere on the side.

ok almost done with the colour map, starting now on bump and spec maps (hoping to complete tomorrow), let me know what ye think (mental block trying to texture the fins, any suggestions to improve?)

Nice one. This looks like a lot of fun. A few points you might wanna look at:

The metal bands could do with some highlights in the diffuse, or in the specular map. Maybe a bit of both.

A suggestion for the fins. add some rivets, and most importantly, some kind of insignia. and something like a number. Same goes for the barrel itself.

Maybe increase the bump map for the wooden parts of the barrel, to give it more structure.

I forgot to mention. You could use those spare polies you got left to model the gaps in the barrel where the fins come out.

ok finished with this one, learned a good bit from this, think I could have improved on my UV layout but will save the for the next challenge ;).
