Ugac - Prop 101 - Jungle - Mini Challenge

~~~~~~~~~~ PROP 101 - UGAC Mini Challenge ~~~~~~~~~~
In the wake of the previous challenges, we are getting back to simpler roots with a smaller challenge. We have decided to try and keep these challenges short and sweet to allow for more growth as an artist by partaking in these challenges while requiring less commitment than previous challenges. E3 is also right around the corner, so instead of a month long ‘full’ challenge - which is what the new format of the Unofficial Game Art Challenges will become - we opted for a shorter ‘prop’ mini challenge to fill the void. After E3 look for the regular unofficial game art challenges to kickoff again.
PROP 101 THEME:
JUNGLE[color=darkorange] / OVERGROWN VEGETATION[/color]
In this setting, you/your vehicle/your environment are deep in the jungle. The jungle owns your prop. How does your prop get customized to fit life within this environment? Is your environment getting taken over by overgrown vegetation? What tweaks to a standard recognizable prop has to be made for it to climatize for a jungle setting?
PROP 101 Guildelines:
YOU MUST choose ONE of the following:
Character used prop [melee weapon, gun, ornament, trinket, etc]
Vehicle used prop [mounted gun, gas cans, spare tires, etc]
Environment used prop [garbage bin, nuclear device, taco stand, etc]
*** ONLY model the prop. We do not want to see models of the vehicle, character or environment the prop belongs to…THIS CHALLENGE IS ONLY ABOUT THE PROP.
Sketches or a description of what the prop belongs to will be enough to sell the PROP. FOCUS ON THE PROP. ***
In taking about this theme in a previous thread, here is what CGtalk Member kwshipman had to say - take note of the great links to reference photos!
#3
having problems with the front page plug - it will be plugged soon :wink:
EDIT: PLUGGED!
#4
May the smudge be with you guys.:wise:
I’m going to be lurking around and learn from the happening. Good luck.:slight_smile:
#5
so you say this whole challenge is about modelling a tire or trinket? im confused, how do you model say a tire or trinket around a jungle environment?
#6
This is the most confusing challenge description ever.
#7
Im glad Im not the only one…
#8
&
Not really.
This is a mini-challenge focused around props. These could be anything from items that help contribute to the scene, to objects that are accessible to the player.
An example of this would be an old oil tank that a player in a fps could hide behind. But the only difference would be that you need it to look like its been overruled by local overgrowth. So all that you need to do extra is make some vines growing in-and-out of the rusted barrel.
#9
makes sence to me:
pickup the prop you like, plant jungleseeds in it, add water,
and come back one hundred years later to take the picture :wink:
#10
To me it sounded more like: model only the vines, we don’t wanna see the rusted barrel.
I already have a bunch of ideas. Maybe if I have time I could do a few…
#11
Ya, that leads me to my only question:
Is there a limit to how many entries we can have, and if not, do we put all of your entries under the same thread?
#12
Guny have me a think abouts this one…
#13
There was no mention of an alpha map, does that mean they are not allowed??
#14
and do you HAVE to have a specular and bump map?
#15
Goodluck guys :thumbsup:
#16
Thanks!
You should also join. The more the merrier.
:smiley:
Heres a site with photos of thai ruins like the reference from up above. If you just do a simple image search you will find tons of these but a friend sent them to me and I thought they might be useful.
