uGAC - PROP 101 - JUNGLE - -KDX-

#1

Alright, this is one challenge I fully intend on seeing through to the end, BEFORE the deadline, so if I start slacking I need you all to kick my butt, ok???

=)
Here’s my general idea…

Partly inspired by a recent episode of Naruto, the current season of Survivor, and countless post-apocalyptic tales, I envisioned a rain forest environment where for every 10 trees there is at least one reminder of an ancient war. In the jugle foliage you see the shadows of a troubled past…countless used and unexploded rounds of explosive and ammunition, partially unearthed skeletons, rusted out vehicles, crashed aircraft, and all other kinds of wartime wreckage. My focus will be a particularly ominous and still very deadly subject who rests in the heart of the jungle. The unexploded nuclear missile rests lodged in ancient mud and rock, with most of the body still visible and discernable. Covered in vines and moss, it is clear that although still potentially lethal, this is one monster that has chosen the high road of peace and tranquility, to be one with nature and life.

this piece is meant for an action/adventure and/or FPS game as a static mesh to be either used for an in-game cinematic or as a simple background object.

sketches coming soon, maybe tomorrow!! I want LOTS of crits since this will be my first focused game model.

concept attached.

model coming before the end of the weekend, texturing all next week. C&C more than welcome…

well I worked for like an hour on the model…had a GREAT base and…system crashes for no reason…=P I was so mad…guess I should get in the habit of saving every 30 minutes or so.

anyways, based on the fact that in 1 hour I had a very good base model I think Monday you’ll all see screens of my model, ^^

That’s tough man. Boo computer crash! I used to loose a lot of work like that so now I save like every five minutes. Can’t wait to see what it looks like!

#5

…it happened again…

=P God just didn’t want me to model anything this weekend I think…maybe he will grace me with better luck this week…if not I’ll be pissed.

crashes are sad to artist because we put our aesthetic spirit into our work some times it’s much worse then other times, remember ctlr s or whatever hotkey to save. Then every time you like a move save with 2 taps of a finger. You got a concept a pretty good one I might add, you should be able to slice some model out in no time, sure you can find time. common man! hit the monitor you only need 1000 tries of work.

PS: Oh, and don’t blame god you have free will

#7

thx, ya I’m going to work on it tonight and ya I’m gonna be pumpin that ctrl+S alot…prolly about every 10 moves…haha…

bad RAM…

=( this sucks. If I find out that only one of my RAM sticks is bad then I’ll meet the deadline but otherwise I might have to sit this one out.

#9

expect updates tonight people…I’ll only be running on 512 RAM with one bad sector (meaning my comp still MAY crash but it won’t be as likely with the other stick gone which had like 3847246 bad sectors)

see the attachments for a few modeling WIPs…

I am going to get to do about 1 days worth of texture work cause of all my computer programs, so I don’t expect too much from this but I will do my best! C&C not just welcome, but needed!!!

Also, I have a question for some of you guys…when I go to make my polys for my alpha mapped vines and shrubbery, should I just “drape and dress” the polys over the model and have them be like separate meshes (not geometrically connected) or does it all need to be continuous??? Like I said earlier this is my first REAL crack at a game model and I am basically going off stuff I’ve seen and the other submissions.

edit: based on what I am seeing and based on the fact that this is a static mesh…I am going to go with the non-continuous model, so hopefully that is ok to do…AFAIK the golden rule is if it looks good and the game engine can handle it, do it…so here goes!!

Hi ther. Wats up?? I like well using of tris You got in here. I’m waiting for the texture. I hope You will finish on time. I keep thumbs.

#12

small update…a few more polys to drape then I’ll be ready to texture…

I’ll finish this, but it may not be as polished as I’d like. This is good practice though! =)

#13

Looking Good. That’s a great concept BTW.

#14

great you see that ya got the model done (finaly) , NOW DO THE TEXTURES QUICK MAN!! :scream:

#15

you guys know that generic 512 UV mapping texture file? the one with the grid of numbers and colors??? =P I used to have it but…misplaced it…

if anyone can sling that at me it’ll help me map some of the trickier areas of my model. Thanks!

edit: guess I’ll wing it since I can’t seem to find that thing for my life…I have NO IDEA what to search for in google or cgtalk…

#16

This one?

I hope you finish this in time, it’s looking good so far.

#17

you are the man. much thanks I won’t lose this file now!! ^^

I don’t think I’ll have this looking “the way I want” by the end of today, but it’ll be close, and I’ll finish this project even if I have to move over the the regular WIP thread.

I do have all the vegetation and ground textures UV mapped (hardest part imho) and I will have some rough textures for tonight, but I’d need another day (just one…damn computer problems!) to make it look like I envision it. I’ll work hard to have something to submit for the competition, but I am at work right now…so I can only work on it during my lunch break…=P

#18

gonna have to shift over to WIP threads, look for me over there guys.

I worked diligently yesterday but only got the main vines, ground, rocks, and grass textured, so the majority of my texturing still remains…=P Those 3 days without a computer crippled me chances of getting this thing done with a full-time job and all…=(
