UGAC - CHARACTER 101 - AMBIENT ARTHROPOD - Oldbean

#1

Haven’t posted here in a while, here goes.

Should be able to finish one. I’m going to be modelling a flying bug for a FPS, as you can see its a little “Doom 3esque”. The legs on the back are so it can walk around on the floor and the wings retract into that little pod on it’s back.

Tell me if this doesn’t fit in with the rules

Any questions or ideas you know what to do

I’ll be back with some 3d stuff soon…

I’ve been working on the low poly model and here’s what I got…

It’s a little more menacing than the concept but I wasn’t totally happy with the concept anyway. The armour pieces would break off when shot exposing the gooey centre. My problem right now is it doesn’t feel very “ambient” but other than that I’m happy with it…

I’ve started unwrapping and I just want to make sure there’s no problems before I go any further. Its 1462 tris at the moment so I’ve got some to throw around if there are.

Any comments are welcome, and some ideas for the high poly would be good too, thanks

hi

not sure on the concept looks kind wacky, but the model is looking top notch.

keep working at it.

Thanks for the comment

Wasn’t happy with the concept anyway  I might go back at the end and do a proper one, I just needed a quick sketch to show what I was aiming for.

Unwrapping very nearly done, should be an update with some high poly goodness soon :buttrock:

Looking good, the mesh looks more solid then the sketch though. Which is not a bad thing considering it all about the polies.
Anyway, those one side polies on the back of the fly might give some problem in realtime engines. Or at least theyll look weird being only one sided. Meybe they should have some kind of geometry on the inside to make it more solid.

Rock on!
