Here’s an early test using the new particle shader. Used the shader settings from Wes Comans’ fire scene as a starting point and just tweaked them a little until I got a decent look.

It’s maybe a little ’ bally ’ due to not quite enough particles, but I’m happy with it for a starting point. :applause: to whoever wrote the shader and it’s pretty quick at rendering, considering the particles can cast / receive shadows properly. Just need the docs / tutorial to explain some of the settings fully.

And this is it in an early test from an anim I’m working on. It’s been rendered with no GI and at low res for speed reasons ( at east that’s my excuse for the poor lighting / texturing / etc… as I much prefer animating to modelling / texturing ). Looks okay, but due to the moving cam, the swirling of the particles is mostly lost.

That’s looking really sweet! I see what you mean about the ballyness but I like the swirling of the texture. Nice animation too

And yeah, I found it renders pretty fast as well

 It’s looking good!

Cheers guys. The swirling is mainly down to the shader recognising the rotation of the particles, which is something which I always wanted Napalm / ParticleFX / Hypervoxels to do, but never did the last time I used them. So +1 for M:S

Crap! The camera animation is top notch.
So the complete thing was rendered in messiah.
Did you do any post work on it?

It’s just a test render from Messiah Jules, no post work. Camera’s still a bit too rigid in the first part though, needs loosening up a little.

M:S really needs dithered motion blur though, as it would help with the render times on sequences that use GI ( 9 GI render passes to make the banding in the motion blur less noticeable isn’t ideal ). I’d have rendered it with GI, but 117 frames@30min+ on a single cpu ties the PC up for a little too long

Vroooooooom! Hey, this is looking really nice! Despite the low resolution it looks kinda real, due to the good animation and camera motion - and the particle effect adds some extra realism. Just work a bit more on the rendering, add a background, and you could fool people

More blur options definitely welcome. I can’t get decent quality at reasonable times…
Great camera work and anoimatioN!

Sweet! More! More! More!
