triangles to quads

#1

Any suggestions for transforming triangles to quads in an Obj or Fact model?

I want to create a hidden line rendering of a hand model that’s currently triangulated.

Would Braider or some other product from Paralumino approximate the effect?

Even lines running cleanly in one direction might be acceptable.

Thanks for any input.
And Happy Holidays/Merry Christmas/Happy New Year!

If you don´t mind using Blender, it has a function called triangles to quads in his menus.
I used it for NURBS text from EIM loaded into Silo. It does it, depending somehow on the model, with about 90 % accuracy, so not much cleaning up left.

Thank you Stefan.

I considered Blender until I read the following link, in which some guy failed with Blender and other major apps but succeeded with Zbrush (nice step-by-step instructions are provided). But since Blender works for you, I will give it a try if there are no solutions for EI.

That´s interesting, the article. Like i said “depending on the model”… But worth a try since it´s free.

Hope it works for you somehow!

Thanks Stefan,

Polygons 2 Quads worked well in Blender.

I just imported the hand model (.obj), selected all triangles, pressed alt J, exported as .fbx, imported fbx into Animator and everything was fine.

There are a few triangles here and there but it’s good enough for what I’m doing. If I want perfection, I’ll just go back, select the offending triangles, and apply alt J.

It was my first time in Blender. After downloading the application, it only took about 40 minutes using the noobs tutorial and search function. What a pleasant surprise! The interface is unusual but makes a lot of sense.

Thanks again.

Good to hear that it worked for you! I´m also a noob when it comes to blender and it´s unique interface, but i think it´s always good to have free tools handy, when it comes to situations like this.

I totally agree, Stefan, and will probably start checking out more free apps.

Thanks again.
