TP-VolumeBreak spreading size

#1

Hy!
I just started learning TP, and already have a small problem. For fracturing 50% of my object i set the “activate %” in volumebreak to 50%. So at frame 0 the “active” group covers 50% of the “static” gropu, but then spreads, so at frame 4 it is something like 95% and then stops. Any idea why this is happening? I have the “Spreading size” option to 0%.
Thanks a lot!

It would help if you post the scene

Here is the same thing. Activate spinner set to 50%. No spreading time, size, gradient.
neverthless it spreads a few frames

hmmm, perhaps we are running different versions but I’m not getting any of the spreading with the test file (opened on 64 bit Max 2010 with TP v4.0.5.7 here). There are 106 particles in group 2 from frame 0 to 100. Can you check your version in case one of us is out of date?

That said, you might be able to fix it by exposing the “on” condition for the VolumeBreak node and plugging in something like a particle age or time interval node. You can set it to “born” on the age one or frame 0 to 0 on the time interval.
These will restrict exactly when the node is able to evaluate. It’s a pretty useful approach in general for optimizing scenes so expensive nodes can do their job just when they need to instead of running on every sample.

hope this helps,
CZ

i’m not in front of computer with tp. But yes i know that using TimeInterval node on On input of VB with (30,30) interval for example will let VB to run for only 1 frame and it will fix that problem in some way

Yeah, the problem it’s that it gets activated on every frame. Connect a particle age condition to the on input and it will be alright. The idea is that the fragmentation only happens once, then the activation gradually releases the fragments into the second group.

Sorry for beeing so late. Great, i understand the problem know, thanks! But still, why does it spread only to frame 4, and then stops?

I think at that point none of the frags fall into that threshold or something
