Toon Shading, blender, ???

#1

So, I created another thread wondering about Maya compatability regarding various graphics chipsets, but then I forgot that instead of spending some hard-earned cash on a high-end laptop, maybe I should look at blender (my previous experience is that it worked decently well on some lower end kit I used to have)… Anyway, most of what I’m planning on doing is toon shaded stuff, and blender seems to have that kinda built-in, any advice? For example:

http://www.3dlinks.com/gallery_fullview.cfm?id=6251 is an example of something that needs a bit more work to me (no offense to the creator, just needs some polish or something… there’s just something about it that doesn’t sit right)

but this:

http://www.3dlinks.com/gallery_fullview.cfm?id=7870 is almost exactly the style I’m looking for. I noticed that it was created using an old tuhopuu build, has it made it into the 2.3x?

And what are the differences between the two styles, settings-wise? I’m completely at a loss. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks in advance!

(btw, searched for toon shading blender and didn’t come up with any relevant threads… sorry if I’m asking a common question)
