Hello CG Talk family,
I’m a Maya user and have always been fascinated by the Manga/Comic Art style society uses today. It seems like that same style is now being used in 3D works as well within the industry such as Street Fighter for Xbox 360, the Marvel vs Capcom 3, the new Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3, etc. As a huge fan of these works however, I’ve always wanted to understand the method of shading they use to render these characters. In Maya there is the Toon shader, however the Toon shader hasn’t been widely used in a lot of works from what I’ve seen today. My question to all users of CG Talk is: What methods are used today to produce such comic like renders in their characters? I have a couple of examples below. Pretty much, the character is modeled in 3D, however whats the next step in producing a comic rendered style character. Please feel free to release any kind of knowledge on this topic.
