THE STORY REEL!_Challenge 1: "THE CHASE":Mr. Mu

#1

So,

I actually would not have dreamed of opening a new thread here in this forum, but Roberto made me do it.:scream:

That is, it’s my WIP thread for the mentioned micro-challenge which I take part in as it was introduced to the DSG over in the WIP2d section where I normally hang out…

Will be the first time I read a movie script, create a storyboard, create an animatic and maybe also the first time I make a complete fool of myself… in public!

But anyway, I shall enjoy this week and as there are many things I will do horribly bad you are free and invited to yell it out loud on this thread.

The reason I do this alone is mainly that my poor skills would soon prove an impertinence to any team so I will have to keep that for a later challenge.

Hi there,

Guess you will know which of the suggested scripts I took by these first sketches. I actually think I won’t get round to do anything that’s more refined than this - I think I will as a matter of fact be glad if I finish this whole thing in time at all…

C&C is always welcome, folks…

Good luck, Mr. Mu! I think this should be a fun challenge to follow!

Cheers,

As Kirt in my anatomy threadsuggested, I covered the chalky textures with flat shades.

#5

aaaaand another one. God, seven days are short. I have a whole fight scene to do before I will be able to do the chase itself (challenge topic)…

I wonder where all the other participants are… Roberto? Do you know wether they all formed teams in silence?

Does anyone in this forum know how to get hold of the soundtrack of the original film? I am not going to do this on my own (making sounds of breaking doors and gunshots with my mouth :scream: ) - so I would like to know how to extract the sound for the passage I am doing. I have means of editing the soundfiles once I have them extracted. But how do I get it?

Mu, I totally dig this and where it’s going. But, can I give you one suggestion?

As cool as it will be to show the fight scene (I am assuming this is from the Matrix?), I believe you need to cut it and begin it AFTER the fight. Begin it strictly with the Trinity/Police chase. The reason why I say this is because it will cut your time and size down considerably and focus only on the topic at hand.

I wish you the best of luck. Wish I could join you on your venture.

Hi Manifestant,

thanks for leaving a comment.

I guess you’re right. It dawned upon me, too, that it was not feasible (esp. for my working speed… I am much too unexperienced for quick work). I think I will add a cartoon-like fight-dust-cloud :scream: to not lose the scenes I already did and go straight for the chase itself. Thanks again!

Running wild

erm, though it says something about grace in the script, Trinity will have to do without it in my storyboard…:scream:

 quick 'n shabby… I guess if getting money for the film had depended on my storyboard we would have never seen the Matrix…

#9

and a little overview…

it’s sad I seem to be the only participant… should be an easy win, now:scream:

that is - if I get it done:eek:

#10

Lookin great Mr. Mu. I wish I had time to do this, but this week is crammed. Keep up the good work.

#11

Hi Wiggin, thanks for the feedback!

I really hate panel 12 (the last one of the previous post where Trinity is starting to jump through the window), but I will only correct that one when I find the time at the end. Also I will add some panels in between with details of existing panels (not that there are any details, so I will have to add them:D )

I still wonder how to extract the audio - maybe I should post a question on general discussion or something?

updated overview:

Kirk was right, I liked the raw sketch look of the chalk, but the flat shades just look overall much better.

As for how to improve frame 12 - hmmm… Sometimes I wish I knew something about art.
My guess is maybe it doesn’t look like she’s diving out of the window, but that she kinda fell into it. I’d lift up her legs a bit (make sure it can’t be conceived that they’re still on the ground). I’d also have her shield her head with her arms to make it look like a more deliberate move.

Anyway, I hope you can get the soundtrack for your reel. That scene’s music was great and very atmospheric.

closing in on the final shot…

now I am off to rent the matrix and extract that audio… til laters

#14

Nice work Mr Mu. You’ve been busy
I was quite keen to try it out myself, but I think that one week is a bit short (especially if also keeping up with the DSG)
Anyway - great work!

#15

thanks overchord!

QUOTE FROM MY ANATOMY THREAD:

My problem at the time being is that I won’t be able to add soundtrack because I don’t have the DVD at home. I went outside (you know, into that thing that is widely known as the real world) and tried to rent it at two video stores and both of them only had the crappy two other parts in store.

How strange is that?!

#16

So here are the final panels.

As described in the previous post I could not get hold of the original audio, but maybe I will add some music to it.

movie coming soon (that is this night…)

(BTW, I could not for the life of me remember Trinity jumping past a train in Matrix, but the script said so, so there you go…)

So I am off to knit it all together…

#17

ahrg, too many pics for one post (according to vbulletin  )

#18

so, here it is.

Unfortunately no sound as no freaking video rental I have been to today has that movie in store at all, so…

Matrix Animatic for MicroChallenge “The Chase”

#19

Looking good Mr. Mu. I can’t wait to see it. BTW, I don’t remeber the train either.

Nice work Mr. Mu.
