very cool! Is it for realtime? you could collapse the short edges at the mirror axis for fewer polys. and make him less symmetrical, even when hes in the bindpose. why not making his anatomy slightly symmetrical?

Thanks-
Yup, it is for realtime. It is for the game art challenge. Once I am near finished with the model, I am going to do an assymetry pass.
As far as those small polys at the center, i am going to try and keep those in order to get that nice back muscle.
Anyone seen the Soul Calibur 2 Astaroth model? awesome.
could u give us a link to that sould calibur 2 model? I am quite interested in the game characters, as im a university student whos making characters for a project which is quite similar in substance to soul calibur 2. Cheers.
In the drawing you made his eyes less buggy and more sunken into the head. I like the line and subtlety(sp?) better there. Also his shoulders still look a little strange. Like his willy though! haha:p
Here is an update. Getting close to my poly limit though. I will gain some when i make assymetry…losing the anklet on the other leg.

WARTORN:
I have just been looking at the game. If you beat the game with Astaroth, you “unlock” his gallery. allowing you to move the camera all around.
JENNBOT:
I am going to try and make his face as close to the drawing as possible. I am torn between “grotesque realism” and “cartoony”. I was originally going for cartoony…but now i dont know. Yup, the shoulders are causing me trouble. If you look at the drawing, he has an unrealistic shape, and the shoulders are funky. It is proving difficult to achieve in 3d
MINDROT:
Yeah, I really want to start texturing. I think I am close. I am thinking of an environment, consisting of one of those red redestals like in the drawing…you know, that circus animals “perform” on? He also now has a ball and chain (so far…just the anklet).
some small tweaks:
Less buggy eyes
smoother around eye sockets
smoother belly
more detailed weiner
more work done on shoulder

Movin’ along quite well. My suggestion is that you flatten out the feet more like a frog. They would complement the hands better too.
Off the subject:
I checked out your website and saw that screenshot of “Karaoke Revolution”. I looks suspiciously like the screenshot of “American Idol” I saw in my Game Informer mag a few issues back. Were there legal issues or “no comment”?
thanks for the tip, i havent really gotten to play soul calibur 2 much… actualy just plyed it twice or so… Anyway, about your character… going great so far, but dont u think a game character with a weiner is something of a controversy? Plus it might save some polys toward the end… Unless youre going to change that after giving him some clothes though, in which case ill just shut up…

Dont know what you mean by legal issues. Both games are pretty similar in content I guess, so I can see how similarities arise. Isnt american idol toon shaded? Also, the Karoke Revolution game actually uses a Microphone as a controller rather than button presses
The again, I saw that game with the woman with the weapons recently and it looked like that other game with the woman with the weapons…y’know?

Heh…yeah, I dont know. When I started I really wanted him nude because I thought that he seemed more vulnerable. The clothes water it down. I am going to try a few things though. As far as the willy, this model will never be in a real game…so no need to worry about silly nudity censorship issues, right?
DANG!
I misread the rules and my guy is just under 5000 polys. I just re-read and saw it is 4000!
oh well…time to prune.
I am now down to 3912 triangles. I want to use the full 4000…anyone see any places that they think could use a few more tris?

hmmmn… possibly remove those 2 edge loops down the centre (the ones on each side of the centre edge loop) of the model. Thise could free up a whole lot.
The fingers coould be optimised better…
MINDROT: yeah, the hands are pretty gross…i am going to fix them. that is where all of the polys were that I cut. then i realized that i had a hidden object that was no longer needed. once i deleted it, suddenly i had planty of polys.
I will probably fix up the hands and then add polys back to a few areas.
I want to keep the 2 loops on the back, because in decent lighting they look really good. nice back muscles.
I like the model, its lookin good… but every time I see it, I wish it lost its ‘manhood’. Its truthfully un-needed and really takes away from the model. Just my opinion though.
hehe… looking good man… is that stubble. nice addition if it is ![]()
Hope you make it in time!!!
yup, stubble. I kinda wanted him to be pretty creepy and gross…but cartoony.
The whole do-it-in-the-car thing turned out to be really slow. Now I have less than a day to finish texturing, rig, pose and render. :surprised
~edit~
ok, I switched to my home PC to try and get this done in time. Here is a mapping update. I think I decided to go with weird realistically painted maps on his obviously non-realistic shape. Seems funny to me.
While fixing the fingers and toes, I am starting to realize i burned some polys in the neck folds that i should have put in the hands and feet. oh well
