Congratulations Chris! I thoroughly enjoyed that. Loved the overall feel and the animation was brilliant. Top stuff!
The Passenger - short film released!
Bloody brilliant Chris! Perfect timing all the way through.
The next Adam Elliott, perhaps?
Excellent Work! Amazing film! Congrats on the Awards, much deserved.
Read thru the “making of” too, very impressive, way to follow it all the way through!
The story is simple to follow and get involved, the animation timing is spot-on, the renders are amazingly beautiful! What else to say? Congratulations! Your short film really stands out!! Thanks for making it, a must watch!!
Well Done Dude !!! I love the whole project, the atmosphere is exellent, frightening as it should be, the modeling and texture work is awesome, and the animation and effetcs rocks !!! Not one part of the workflow process has been left as a less important one … the soundtracks are amazing too
Just can’t believe it’s stayed Work in progress for 8 years … i have so many wip but all of them are forgotten and replaced by new ones later in the 6 months … so I guess u particulary like this one to make it alive and still believe in it for so long time !
Congrats Man !!!
It’s AMAZING animation!!! CONGRATULATION!:applause:
Awesome job man!!! I have no question. ![]()
8 years… You are the BEST!!! Everything is GREAT!!!:applause:

What an amazingly artistic genius you are. A fantastic film mate. I loved it.
(I particularly liked the “Useless information” page.)
Do you ship the DVD to EU countries as well? sorry for asking this, but after reading through the whole making of I had no energy to get into purchasing details. I’m a buyer if possible. thanks for raising the bar tho
What a pile of crap!
I hated it… I mean come on…
hahah are you freakin kidding? that was In-freaking-credible!
great job!
Amazing. Thats for sure one of the most stunning short movie i have seen in the pass years. Fantastic Work!
Truly exceptional!
Not qualified enough to comment on the quality of the animation but it kept me entertained, on the edge of my seat and laughing throughout just as much ,if not, more than any Pixar short!
Gonna put in my order because I feel I already got value for money.
Sheesh, doesn’t anyone have anything bad to say?
Seriously, thanks again everyone for the support, what you’ve all said is precisely what I set out to achieve (even though to my eyes/ears it fell short in a few areas). So that’s reassuring.
As much as I could muster without being too silly about it (it was a bit of an undertaking in itself...).
I'm working up some new projects, but trying not to lapse into doing another short; if I did though I'd be inclined to enlist some help I think.
Hungary doesn't appear to be on chaos's
(http://chaos.com/help/beginners.asp#wheredowedeliver), but it wouldn't hurt to badger them about it just to be sure. If not, badger me about it and I'll try to work something out.
Update: I asked Chaos, they said they can get it to most places - email customer service (info@chaos.com).

Chris you HAVE to submit this to SIGGRAPH.

I remember following the development of the passenger a few years ago. Fantastic work, from all aspects. Congratulations for making it and for releasing the dvd & best of luck on your future projects.
And there you have it. So was it all worth it? Well, it was up to a point. Unfortunately I passed that point somewhere around year four, and after that the odds of any kind of worthwhile return increasingly diminished. I tried to salvage the situation by piling even more of my eggs into the one basket, and eventually I could no longer even imagine an outcome that would justify such a densely packed basket of eggs.
When I set out, my goal was simply to improve my job prospects. I had enough material for that within the first couple of years. After that it was a matter of following through and finishing off what I’d started. It became an exercise in extreme patience and endurance, in which I pushed all my gear (and some might say my sanity) to near breaking point. I remain hopeful that one day the film’s true purpose will be revealed, but whatever eventuates, the simple fact is that I just needed to get this thing out of my system. I had already seen the film before I even started - I just wanted to show everyone else what it looked like.

Chris, I really enjoyed reading about the year-by-year behind the scenes. The quoted paragraphs above is very illuminating for me (and as I’m sure for others as well). There is a thread about making one-man feature-length CG films where people have been discussing the logistics and pros and cons, and I think it would be awesome if you could share your thoughts and advice there:

As another artist/writer/director/composer, I’m curious what your musical background is, since your website doesn’t mention anything about it.
Did you do all the music on one Pentium 4? EWQLSO (which version did you use–Gold or Platinum?) on a Pentium 4 must have forced you to constantly freeze tracks and bounce to audio, instead of keeping everything flexible in MIDI? That must’ve been a nightmare.
I’m currently planning a multimedia novel that’s sort of like a glorified animatic/digital graphic novel, and I can already predict that the music and sound effects will be the most challenging aspects. I know for myself that doing full blown CG animation with hi-res rendering is just not worth it in terms of ROI–be it emotionally, creatively, time, or finances. My main focus is as a storyteller, so art and music to me are only tools to serve the story, and I think with the digital graphic novel/Kinetic novel formats, a storyteller has plenty of tools to get the vision across without spending unGodly amount time animating and rendering.

BTW, I think it’s amazing how far you stretched the budget you had. You mentioned you ran out of money and had to take on some game work for 4 moths. What was the actual breakdown of total cost (computers, audio equipment, software licenses, living expenses, traveling, business/festival application fees…etc)? You did mention some numbers in the behind the scenes, but I don’t think you have a full list of cost breakdown?

Your short film is top quality in every aspect of the film making: direction, camera, editing, animation, technical…
I hope you get the future you deserve. Looking forward to more of your work. We will try to be as patient as you
