Hey there John, the set up for your lighting is really slick. :wise: I am really glad you shared it. It does an excellent job showing off your models! :buttrock:

Hi John, nice work on that furry three eyed creature i like the one -where i think it doesn’t fit exactly as alien- the bottom left one the brownish fur.

#609

here’s the cat eye material explained…all done in Cinema4D

#610

Nice work on the avatar, so simple but very very erm cute? (twitchy and bitey!?)
Oh no, I was asking Mona if that smiley was a rabbit

EDIT: Cool another tutorial
The way the maps work is similar to Max, so I will test it on my eye.

EDIT2: Seems to work in Max as well

#611

At last i’m back online:bounce: Love the cat Shakes and have learnt a lot from your little tutes. Keep up the great work, i am so glad i can follow your progress once more.

#612

Great to see how you built those eye materials, John. Your texturing has been fantastic right from the start

#613

Thanks for the 2nd eye tut. I just have to ask this question. I was going to save it for later, but I just gotta know.

Why in the world would you use an arbitrary scene for your reflection map, rather than making one from your real scene once you have everything put together? What bothers me about doing it the way you are doing it, is that if you use the same reflection map on all the characters, it’s not going to match the scene… or even worse, they’ll all have the same reflection map and it’ll really look odd. So I’m kinda all  over the eye reflection thing.

Sorry, if I draw you out into a long technical discourse when you should be working.

#614

Womgoose:that’s great it works with Max…good luck with it, glad it helped!
handlebar:thanks handlebar…glad you liked it…always good to see you, and hope you get back to your great challenge now.
mdavid:thanks alot, Mark, appreciate it mate!
MT Cup:good point MT, I appreciate you taking the time.it is probably a little copout using the same HDRI in all the eyes, but it’s a very subtle reflection, and the image really only shows as tiny highlights-(i tried about 2 dozen HDRI’s and this one gave the best highlights) But good advice, and we’ll see when I get the scene together how it looks-I can always change it then.

cheers, shakes

#615

damn these creatures are cute!
you also got some amazing renders. I thinks i’m gonna get such a hard time getting the eyes correct.

keep up the good work.

#616

Nice tut on the eyes! I like the noise channels. great idea. gives some real depth to the surface.

By the way, take away an eye and the pink fur and I have a cat that looks almost the same. Kind of sad to see her trying to chase birds. good for a laugh though.

#617

Nice work on the eye tut Shakes. Those eyes rock! It is nice to see your methodology.

#618

Ah, the secret of the eye is reveiled. Love to see how you put that together.

#619

If u continue explaining stuff with screen grabs from Cinema4D…i think even i will be able to learn it…heheh… Keep going mate…:applause:

#620

Hi Shakes, just gotta come out of lurk mode to say how much I enjoy your work and unique take on life…The originality of your entry for Journey" aroused my appetite for more info, so I went across and read the hilarious “Elvis” thread…so cool…dark without being mean spirited. Not easy to do. Really digging this thread, and learning heaps, your WIPs are like mini tutorials.

Cool stuff!
