The Journey Begins Challenge (2D) Entry: David Freeman

The Journey Begins - The Field Trip

The last days of summer come to a close and the first signs of autumn and colder times slowly creep in.

Three young children venture out into the unknown with their mechanical guide and tutor on a journey of discovery and magic and endurance.

Part real and part imaginary (as children can spend a lot of time inventing stories) this is a sort of Famous Five / Enid Blyton for the modern age.
Cakes, picnics and scary adventures with a fantasy, sci-fi twist.

The image shows our intrepid explorers and guide, standing within the ruins of an ancient religous ruins which reveal long lost secrets of old civilisations and truths about their past.

The book opened, shows clues to a journey which wouild take the children through an old long lost city and on into the wildreness and mountain ranges full of monsters, strange people and treasure.

This was created entirely in painter 8 and Photoshop. The children were drawnd from scratch in Painter using an detailed oils brush and blender, though I did sketch facial and figure reference from life.

I could still spend longer on this, but time has run out, so hope you enjoy…

Lovely pic, it works well, well done. I’m sure it’ll be a winner.

It struck me that we could make a story with a number of pics from this challenge. Here’s the bones of it…
A Soul gets drawn down into the physical worlds (see EdP-Art )
The Soul gets a physical body and is born (see BlackDidThis )
It goes through many tasks and adventures (here’s just a few suggestions MrFreeman

Jerome might even put it to poetry

   I’ve been away since the challenge ended so I thought it was about time I thanked all of you for the support and advice that has kept me slaving away throughout the challenge…

I suppose there is still quite a bit I would have added to the image, but the workload always goes crazy at the end of a challenge (they just seem to know). Also not sure about colours as they look different in Painter and Photoshop and also between my laptop and other macs…mmmmm
