Just getting my head around modeling,
I am here to learn, and apreciate the “mini” tuts on some of the models.

Going for silver and have started with the Pencil.
Hey Roberto, would it be ok if we deviate from the list?..I’m talking about due to lack of good references for most of them…let me know…and HERE’S my WIP thread SILVER
and sup w/ the “thump’s up” @ the bottom of everyone’s post?..or is it just me??
sure thing roberto
it appears as though cgtalk has adopted a reputation system…clicking the thumbs up guy adds rep points to that user
thx robo3687…
…hey Roberto, I know you’re a busy guy, but I’m still waiting for a response to my question…allow me to explain…I’ve found a few things around my apt that would be great to model b/c I can actually hold, measure, and see every lil detail about them ( nail clipper, flip- flops, toothBrush, vacuumCleaner etc ) I mean there’s still over 25days left for the challenge…I can compose a list…others might be interested…whaddu ya say? :deal:
I’m actually a few models in already, but I forgot to announce my participation. Here’s the link to the thread:
HARDCORE MODELING!: 30Days_30Models: Silver (at least)
-= Imagus =-
cool…here goes::
toothBrush
ceiling fan
alarm clock
nail clipper
flip flops
reading glasses
bathTub
gameController
DVD player
liquidSoap bottle
toy car ( or truck )
sneakers
coffeeMaker
boomBox
doorKnub
retroTelephones
motherBoards
watch
USB
closetDoor
…and pretty much what’s on robo3687 list as well…
I like that idea too. A sharpie I can hold and measure is alot easier than lets say a hippo. This will help a lot of unexperienced people to do more tangable objects and therefor more models.
I know this would help me out.
I dont know if you are really going to go through with adding more objects… but if you are,
here are a few more ideas.
oragami crane
guitar
trumpet
sax
Ok guys personally… I think that if its not on the list… it won’t be, or shouldn’t be… I mean I understand Binder’s proposal and I think that those could be for a future challenge, but as for this current challenge I think the list is THE list, because otherwise everyone doing the challenge could be like “Oh can I do a Q-tip, Salt Shaker, Printer, DVD, etc.” see where I’m going with this… I mean being able to research this is part of the challenge not just the modeling… Honestly I’ve seen some pretty good models with just using web references…
I mean it’s only fair… because the technology list didn’t get in (though robo3678 wanted to do them)…
but that’s just me.
But I do have a related question… I want to do a model of a B-17 (personal reasons)… and was wondering if I could do one for this challenege… It is like a B-52 except a smaller version of it… I can do either… I have orthos of each… I was just wondering if I could… (this isn’t a major deviation from the list just a slight one since it is still a bomber plane)… either way I am going to do the B-17 I was just wondering if I would be able to use it for the competition… Thanks (PS if you are wondering what it looks like go HERE)
Hello, I’m relitavely new to cg talk (well i’ve been registered a while but never used it)
I’m wondering if i can start this tomorrow seem as i’m going to do the silver challenge and i’ll only going to have to do 10 models (is this right?)
And also i was wondering if you make your own thread to put all your entrys in?
I’m going to be doing quite simple topics because on a maximum i’ll get 4 or 5 hours a day if that. Also i’ve only been doing 3d modelling for half a year so i’m still quite new to it.
I’m only 13 so i still have school to go to and lots of homework to do so thats going to take some time up.
Thanks CU44:thumbsup:
wow 13 and already getting into CG… awesome…
NEway
silver is 10 models (that is correct)
and you do have to start your own thread
13 is a good age to get started in things like this…i for example started working in 3d at 11 (with a program called Extreme 3D…very basic by any standard today) then shifted up to a program I can’t quite think of the name of 2 years later.
Then when I was 14 I got access to Max through school and have been a user for the last 5 years. I think with something like this you have to start young so you have plenty of time to build up the skills to get yourself a job after school.
I’ve been stuck home all year sick/recovering so I have had alot of time to polish up my skills.
Thanks for your awnswers and wooooo! I’m gonna get started now ![]()
And may be there should be a hardcore modelling challenge information thread with all the rules and list of topics in to make it more accessible.:wise:
Hi, I’ll take the PICK AND CHOOSE - Silver Challenge mode to participate, and I hope to upload what I’d been modeling the last days:
iPod
ruler
screw
pencil
marker
…
See you all!
