Wladyslaw Theodor Benda. I love this artist’s work.
He was also a reknowned mask maker.

Enjoy!
Cris
Thanks, Teun. I’m gllad you like it.
Sorry, I’ve been working on other projects…it’s going to be a busy few weeks, so I’ll try and keep up at least with illustrators.
The Hirschfeld we know.
The Hirschfeld not everyone has seen.
A Niblets Corn ad by the great Rockwell.
A Mucha cover for Hearst International.

A gorgeous illustration by Thornton Oakley.
Enjoy!
Cris
The Hearst International’s is incredible! O_O
Thank you for sharing and good work !
WAs thinking the same, MUcha is it I bet. I had some stuff I found a week back but numerous unexplained crashes wiped em from my tabs.
I’ll find them prolly.
Tonight, one of my very favorite artists, Carl Larsson.
I really love his depictions of his family among the many commissions he painted through the years.
Self-portrait.

Enjoy!

There’s so many works and artists in this thread that I just adore. I really have to say I love your songbird sketch (with and without colour). Leyendecker makes my cheeks tingle with happy jealousy. So does the first pastel painting by Eric Pape. The pinks and blues in that dress are just to die for.
Rockwell of course is one of my alltime favourites (I can never stop staring at he and Sargents paintings). If you get a chance, post some of Arthur Rackham’s works (if you feel they fit in here)… I just adore his stuff, and I think people who haven’t seen it before should.
Anyhow, I’ll check back in on this thread later
figured I would add my three fav Rackham drawings anyhow.
I’m fond of this one in particular because I have one of the early prints of it (it’s pretty ageworn)… and I love the title “Feeling Very Undancey”

Hi, Jennifer. Thank you for visiting. I am working ont he background for The Songbird and will post updates soon…been busy working on my Japanese vampire in my Sketchbook.
You said three Rackhams…did one get lost?
Adding some more for you.
Enjoy!
Cris
I see all three images I don’t know why they’re not showing up for you. Thanks for adding more! I’ve been wanting to do a pin up style inking using teabags for staining, red ink, graphite, and black ink. Problem for me is I’m one of those lefties that has a hard time with ink because I end up getting it all over my hand. But this thread has really made me want to do one with the elongated neck, and those pouty lips I love so much from that time period.
[font=bookantiqua]Hi Cris
This thread is fascinating to me, as I have always loved vintage illustrations and decorative art. Princess Badoura comes from one of my limited edition Fairy Tale books printed in the UK and illustrated by Edmond Dulac. I have several books with gorgeous color plates and would love to share them with you. I can make high res files and you could get them with FTP client, etc. Maybe I should try something inspired by this too.
Thanks again for the wonderful painter workshop and this really cool thread.

Hello, Serena, Jennifer and Jana.
Jennifer, I tried looking at the thread in a different browser to see if it was a browser issue. Safari sees that there is an image there, but doesn’t recognize it for some reason.
Jana, your image did not come through; don’t know if it is server issues like you’ve had in the past. When Jennifer started talking about Arthur Rackham, I actually thought it would be great to follow up with Edmund Dulac, so was pleased you were going to show some. Hopefully, you will be able to show some of the plates. For the thread, they cannot be hires due to the bandwidth, but I think everyone would love to see them.
Dulac’s The Nightingale illustration of the emperor on the bridge is one of my favorite images. His Princess and the Pea is also a favorite. I have a tendency to feel anything like little crumbs or anything that’s in the bed and I’m always saying, “geez, I’m like a Princess and the Pea”.

Enjoy!

LOVE THIS THRAD!
yes i sure do
anyway just to tell ya my fav, is Mucha. “Alphonse Mucha” I own 2 of his works
here is a picture, the yellow one is very rare, the fact that the did stayed yellow and did not fade is because it was in the wraped up in dark for decades, its a version of
Sara Bernhardt, 1896 My mother picked it up in venice years ago… i think he was amazing.
thanks again for the amazing thread.

I like the Rackam ones…I like Charles Vess a lot and Rackam’s paintings are similar…or the other way around?! Do you Google the paintings or you have tons of books in your art library?
Cris, thanks for posting the Frank Schoonover and Thornton Oakley pieces.
Great stuff!!!
Wow, some great art here!
How is it with copyright and such?
Im asking becourse i would like to post some pics in a simmilar thread maybe.
Keep the good work flowing!
/D
I believe all the work I’ve posted thus far has passed into public domain, but thinking about it, I may have a few pieces that may be questionable. I’ll have to investigate.
Cris
