The Character Animator Toolkit tutorial any good?

#1

hi guys,

i was wondering if anyony here has ‘The Character Animator Toolkit for Motion Builder’ training.

http://motionbuildertraining.blogspot.com/

it seems to be pretty good and i think about buying it. so my question is: is it worth it? what’s your opinion about it?
i’m a pre-intermediate/intermediate motionbuilder user and i know my way around it… will i gain anything from the training?

thanks a lot:)

Ive been using MB for years now, but there was still a few tricks of the trade you can pick up from seeing other people. Also, Its not too expensive compared to other dvds for other packages.
I must also say that i got mine through work, so it didnt cost me anything, but if youve cash handy you could do far worse. Its probably the ‘best’ MB training dvd you can get. (or should i say ‘only’?)

Depends on what you want to get out of it. It’s geared more for key framing than mocap. I do mostly mocap related work in the app, but I got a lot out of the class. I think Brad and Chad did an excellent job.

Here’s what I found most useful:

  • Tips for prepping the character in your core 3d app. (Maya, Max)
  • Lots of info on modifying the MoBuilder rig and setting up extra controls/visibility options.
  • How to build a good footroll. (shows you how to build relationships similar to set-driven key)
  • Bi-directional constraining for props, etc.
