What exactly do you need to know?
Have you already tried using the .ai facility and if so what happened?
If you draw a shape in AI - in point to point straight line mode, then the ai nodes will become the verts in wings (assuming 0 bisection) - so you will get an extruded object exactly the same shape as that drawn - but with thickness.
Use AI version 8 or earlier - later won’t work (I use v7)
Stay within the confines / boundaries of the drawing area in AI - scale down if it’s too big.
Closed paths only, I believe (from memory).
If you use too high a bisect number (>3?), the chances are you’ll end up with a far too complex object.
