I’m kind of in the same boat here. I had a great design for a civilian/recreational vehicle that could be redesigned into a starfighter/scout, but I feel like it’d be better left as it is.
The 15yr Anniversary Challenge with Igor Tkac
So this is my first CG Society challenge (first ANY challenge actually) So I am a bit apprehensive as to what is expected (not to mention the talent I will be up against). I am not a concept artist by any stretch of the imagination but I am quite handy with working in Maya and making 3D objects.
I guess what I am asking is what exactly is the end game? Can I just use rough sketches that I make myself from ideas and create a finished and textured 3D model as my entry?
Multiple Entries: YES
Pilot Based off your own entry: YES
- Can the ‘starfighter’ design be a scout, exploration or medical vehicle? I have a concept I’d like to explore, but would only weaponize it if necessary for the competition rules.
I would say don’t just compete for the prize categories there are 25 professional judges… there’s a lot more to win that just material things. Impress us and there is a lot more to win than prize packages so to speak
We are waiting on two final sponsor commitments by this weekend. The companies contributing are trying to secure the prizes for us for a third category for Science/Service Craft . SSC could be scout, firefighter, non violent, etc.
Creativity adds points a mother ship could be considered to be things like a Launching bay or Space elevator. Pilot and Crew could be a single Character or scene full of characters. the categories are fairly tight based off of Igors Suggestions.
There may or may not be several surprise awards for thinking outside the box, being a good sport, etc.
Challenges should be fun so we want to keep a few cool tricks up our sleeves.
Hello CGS,
In past Challenges each contestant would start their own thread here on CGS and post updates. I would really like to do that again. But, Which forum page is best for this? Is this one, The THRUST CG Society’s Challenge page good?
Thank you so much!

Thank you Igor,

Fair enough:) I have no control over the page’s design but I have confidence it will continue to get better and better.
Hello CGS World,
I have made a great discovery. The new forum page works with HTML tags.
This should alleviate some formatting discomfort, like carriage returns and colored text.
Thank you Everyone!

Sorry stupid question. Maybe it’s obvious but in the briefing is written: “Design a pilot and mechanic crew on a space mission.” Does it mean we need to make a pilot or a mechanic (one character), a crew of a pilot and a mechanic (two characters), or a crew of pilots and mechanics (whole bunch of characters)?
Cheers

Mechanic
Crew Member
…SO on
leaving this pretty broad the idea is to create a character in space that matches the best you can to a vehicle existing in the contest,t with a team mate, or inspired by an existing concept…The main question being reviewed here is does this character belong or feel consistent to the world of the design.
So, do i need to register at http://www.phantomworks.xyz or can i just use my regular forum account? it no problem to register over there too, i just want to make things right =). This challenge is everything i´ve been waiting for!
Thanks!
