Hi! I am fairly new to cinema 4d and am trying to create micro biome. I have posted a picture below of what I am trying to achieve. So far, I have hairs on a plane but I can’t seem to get my hair textured like the picture! Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!
Texturing Hair
Assuming you use the standard C4D hair material, the easiest way to colour hair is to use the “Surface” tab inside the “Color” parameter.
Tick it on, and all the hair stands will take the colour of the object they grow on.
So, if your little blobs are green and yellow, the correspondig fuzz will also be green and yellow.
Thank you! I have the color figured out, just not the texture? The plane has a bump material on it so when i clicked surface on the hair material, i thought it would have added that same texture to the hairs but it didn’t?
I wouldn’t use Hair alone to accomplish that bacteria image. Maybe replace hair with geometry that looks like one of those bacteria and apply a regular texture to it that allows a bump map. Or make one bacteria and randomly clone it onto a plane.
Just to be clear, which part of the image do you intend to use hair for? The bigger blobs or the tiny “peach fuzz” on them?
Individual hair strands don’t have UV coordinates. They can only have a root and tip colour. So it will work best for hair and fur seen from a distance.
For the bigger blobs, while you can use the hair system for distrubution and instancing, the hair strand primitive won’t give you the desired result.
Instead, you need to create actual geometry : so in the hair object go the “generate” tab, untick 'Hair" (you won’t need it) and in the “type” dropdown menu choose “instance”.
Create a capsule primitive (or anything similar to your blob thing), and add it as the object to replicate.
Size, variation and thickness will still be controlled by the hair material, but geometry will be controlled by the instanced object. You can also choose to keep the original material or replace it.
The bigger blobs, or the blobs that appear to be standing up a little. I attempted to put a cylinder in the instance under generate but nothing happened. I unchecked ‘Render Hairs’ and everything. I also tried to just clone capsules on my plane but it didn’t give me the right look either!
The geometry has to be deformable, and hence editable. It won’t work with a live primitive.
Yes, I figured it out! Thank you so much. Now just trying to make my texture similar? I’ve added bump but no luck yet. Thank you again!
In the dynamics or forces tab there’s a “hair to hair” switch to enable self collisions and a radius slider.
