So in keeping with the usual acronyms for Heavy’s melee weapons, that would make it… nevermind.

That just makes me wonder what kind of imaginative noise it makes when you connect a punch… Or maybe not. Curse you, internet!
Wait … are those fists of Pudi-pudi? I thought he was cross-dressing. Hahahah
(I am a sick person)
… I think you’re all sick people.
Anyway. Saxton Hale needs your help! The internet doubts his prowess! Go vote for him in this silly poll!
Silly indeed!
THIS VOTE JUST GOT VOTED BY SAXTON HALE.
Also, if I disappear this week, I’m on this crazy Oblivion kick on the lead up to Skyrim. I know, I know what I said Brain but I guess finally beating the game is just not enough.
Man, I spent a billion years lockpicking this insanely difficult lock in a populated room for some kind of armory to steal this rad suit of glass-like armor only to find out the armor was worthless and completely ineffective.
So I went on a journey in the forest and got chased onto a rock by some kind of troll or ogre or something who very badly wanted to eat me. I think by this point my stolen horse had run away when I dismounted to be chased by some guards. I eventually wound up lost in some cave shootin’ magic at goblins before I came to the conclusion that this game, for all its amazing open worldness, is just painfully BORING.
So what’s a list of mods to make the game less boring? Perhaps by fixing melee combat so every action I perform, for example connecting a blow against my enemy, doesn’t result in me being deflected for 30 seconds and stabbed to death by goblins while lost in a cave. Wyatt’s Mod Picks, so to speak.
I think you’re just playing the game wrong there Meelo. The knock back can be reduced as you level, locked chests only rarely have good items in them, also when you are a low level it’s not so good to just go wandering around because there are a lot of things that will mess you up. I think most of wyatt’s and my mods either make the game look graphically better or more challenging, enemy wise. So that might not help you out.
Anyway because I know some of you check this more than steam you can now start pre-downloading Skyrim via steam.
Yeah, yeah yeah! Go time.
Like Brain said, you’re doing it wrong.
Seriously though, I’m laughing at all of those scenarios because they happened to me too. Most of the guild halls are populated with various awesome looking items. Then once you pick the lock you realize they’re mostly replicas which are worthless. The good stuff is on dead dudes or in dungeons. I also got chased many a time onto a rock by what seemed to be stupid little forest creatures only to realize they could take my throat out. When I initially started playing the game I turned the difficulty all the way up. The way Oblivion handles difficulty is by giving every creature 10x times the health. So I could loose every arrow in my quiver and exhaust all of my mana only to realize that bunny was still coming after me. RUN! Also, check your graphic settings. I had vsync enabled/disabled (I don’t remember which way) for the first half of the game. Doesn’t seem like a big deal except one way makes lockpicking a fun little activity of timing and patience, the other turns locks into punishing machines with enough kickback to break your picks as well as your jawbone if too close.
If you have the system for it I would go to www.tesnexus.com, go to files->Top 100->Most Endorsed Files of all time. The list has gotten a bit out of whack over time but you’ll find the Oblivion Mod manager, Unofficial Oblivion Patch, Natural Environments and Better Cities.
I just finished the game with Oscuro’s Oblivion Overhaul. That makes the game harder but a bit more believable. I liked a lot of the tweaks, some others made it no fun. You probably wouldn’t like it. If you want my full mod list I can give it but it’s about 25 deep.
I just don’t understand anything about this Skyrim game. Everyone’s talking about it, but I have not heard one thing that has stated, “this is why you need to buy this game!”
“OMG SKYRIM!! I CAN’T WAIT!!!”, just doesn’t convince me. Maybe I’m under a rock.
I’m in the same boat. I think it’s mostly because a lot of the info that’s been released has been targeted at established Elder Scrolls fans, so anybody else just goes “huh?” and moves on.
I’ll probably end up buying it at some point because I enjoyed Fallout 3 and want more exploration and stuff, but I’ll hold off for a while.
A lot of Bethesda’s games probably sell based on pedigree. I loved Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Fallout NV. My main gripe was how dated the engine looked. Skyrim seems to have taken care of that so “OMG SKYRIM!! I CAN’T WAIT!!!”
I think the most important part of games like Oblivion and FO3 are the insane, emergent behaviours and random stories that develop from them. My main gripe with the game was just how frustrating melee combat is, but if you claim it gets better as you level I’ll have to give the game another try. I can understand the need to make the game harder, it’s like me and the original Fallout games (and now the new Fallout games). Once you understand the game, the story, the mechanics and how to use them to your advantage all challenge is lost. You need ways to bypass what you already know and restore the difficulty. That’s what I’m doing to New Vegas through mods right now too… and it’s STILL too easy. That said, I can’t stand difficulty mods that simply make enemies have more HP. If my arrow is deadly, it should kill easy and difficult foes alike with ease but that should go both ways. I prefer difficulty mods that increase enemy damage output to match yours so it becomes about skill.
@Kirt, it’s my understanding that most of the people mad for Skyrim are already fans of the Morrowind/Oblivion games. I know nothing about it other than it would probably break my now dated computer and my completely empty wallet.
I’ve only played warrior/monks in Oblivion, and yes melee combat is simple in that you more or less just have swing sword and block. I found it’s all about the footwork to keep from being utterly destroyed by certain creatures. I learned you need to go in for a swing or two then back up so that the bad guys hits don’t connect then go back in for more hits and repeat. So even though there are no real fighting mechanics, moving around in a fight is a big deal, or use terrain to your advantage. Also just as important is knowing the creatures weakness and making sure you pack along a few weapons that have different stats to use against different creatures. Only having one weapon on hand is certain doom, I usually have 3-4 swords each with different elemental powers. Oblivion is much less a run and gun game like Fallout and much more about the preparation before a quest or fight.
In TF2 news, it seems like you may be able to keep your Halloween stuff showing as long as you don’t un-equip it.

Logged into Steam this afternoon to be greeted by a personal form message from Gabe. Apparently the Steam network/forums was hacked. Change your password. Doing it now.
