You think it’s confusing to you? I’m the one who built the damn thing and I have no idea where the red light came from! There aren’t any lights out there, and I’m absolutely certain I never made any weirdly colored lights anywhere on the map.

It’s a mystery that I’m still trying to figure out.

I think I’ll set a deadline for the first iteration of the map to be Friday, February 29th. Although since I’m still learning hammer and it’s many querks, that may be pushed back.

That took forever to find again but I knew I’d seen it before. Basically a brush entity that prevents an engineer from building in certain areas. You’ve seen this before in Hydro when you can’t build teleporters way inside the bases.

Wow Swizzle, I didn’t get to play the new version this weekend but looking at the screenshots from your thread, MmmMmm that looks good.

Great fun on Friday night but that server mishap killed all the momentum. That and the odd lag flickering that was occuring, I think I wasn’t the only one who saw it. Other than that it was a blast. Badlands is quite a nice change of pace, the anthills will be the site of many great future battles I expect. The quick timer at the last CP is fine I think because as we saw engineers and demomen can totally entrench that last room.

I’m really sorry about that hitch on Friday, my lousy PMing skills failed the server and killed the game it sounds like.

Beta 7 is still broken, I haven’t released a 7.1 yet to fix the timer bug, so I suggest playing Beta 6 only until I get that taken care of. The fix is easy, I’m just busy. There have been good suggestions made on how to address heavy defense and I will do my best to take care of that for you guys.

I’ve actually got all the minor fixes that are missing in Beta 7 finished, just not compiled. I’ll run that through the tools now and get a copy uploaded. If I can manage to ACTUALLY send out a PM to the right people this time it should be available for tonight’s game. I’ll post links in this thread when it’s ready.

Okay, so Steam won’t even allow me to open Hammer. I’m getting really sick of this “requires an internet connection to play” bull**** from Steam. I can’t even run it in offline mode, so there’s no way I can release an update. I’ll keep trying and post any success but it certainly does look like BETA 6 tonight, unless you don’t mind the broken timer.

Hammer finally decided to let me run it and I was able to correct the mistakes I’d made on the timer.

Vanilla had his host change platforms so he had PHP support, but this has put his server offline for the moment. He uploaded the map, but it might not work. I’ll test it out now and find out what happens.

EDIT
Just loaded escher beta 7.1, if Vanilla’s site is still in transition, there will be problems switching to custom maps for anybody who doesn’t preload. If the download server is unavailable, Source games do NOT automatically default back to the host server for maps.

As long as the server Admins have the 7.1 version loaded before the game starts, they will be able to change the map if it’s not loading for others. If there is no Admin on when the map cycle gets to 7.1, then you’re going to have the same problem you had last Friday.

Sorry about this whole situation. I wasn’t thinking about the game tonight when I decided to switch. I also didn’t figure it would take my actual site out of commission durring the change, damn my layman’s.

So, should I pull the custom maps from the rotation until Vanilla can get his site working? I’d hate for folks to get stuck trying to download a map. Maybe we should stick to Valve’s maps and ignore the customs for this weekend’s events?

Hmm… is it possible for you guys to post links to all the custom maps we need to have loaded? I may be in for a quick blast tonight, and I’m hoping to not get kicked like last time.

If you played last week, you should have them all except kromano’s EscherhausBeta7_1 (which is linked above). However, there are always friends that show up and they may not have the current map versions or know that the links are here in this thread. Which isn’t much help either because the links point to Vanilla’s fast d/l server (currently down).

Which is why I ask … custom maps on or off? I need to know within the hour or you folks are going to be on your own once the game starts. I don’t have time later to join the server or make mapcycle.txt/maplist.txt changes.

I would say if there’s doubt, pull them for now. I had to exit out and download at least once last Friday because I hadn’t checked CGTalk an hour before the game. As it looks like I wasn’t the only one I think it would be a good idea to make Thursday night the deadline for new maps/versions of maps, especially since we can always play last weeks’ version if the new one isn’t in in time.

One other thought: Does capturing intel add game time? If not, why not? I think we wouldn’t lose momentum in long stalemates if the game time on intel maps started shorter, then added time once someone captured so we knew progress was being made. What do you guys think?

Yeah pull them I brought up at my company forem about this event. If custom maps cant be DL now not good… of cource I could be the only one comeing and no one else cares. Its ICY out side in the Washington DC area so I dont think alot of “Going out” will happen tonight.

Also for CTF could we just have a huge time and just cap as meany point as posible in that set time and have no win goal?

Looks like we’ll have to stick to standard maps tonight. It should be up and running for tomorrow, though.
