Syflex_Problem

#1

Hi everybody im trying to set up my scene to run my cloth sim through syflex and Im running in to a few problems. First my sim time is just taking a very long time actually it really never started cause it was taking so long. The only thing that Iam trying to sim right now it the characters pants and thats it. Im might have a setup value on my cloth wrong but cant figure out which. I used pin constraints to attach them to the character. Im working in cm so I set my gravity to a -1.09. Still long sim times. Also when you sim the cloth object do you sim a low res version or a hight res version wasnt sure how much it would effect your sim time. Also I know that im mayas cloth if you have a penatraition of cloth in your geo you will get weird effects at start time. Does that have the same effect in syflex. Heres some pics of my current settings. If any could help me out that would be great.

Mass Density 0.0 looks like a major problem.

Hi Frankyboy I tried changing my mass to some different numbers and im Still having some problems it goes a little faster but not much. If anyone does know about wether I should sim my goemtry smoothed, or sim the low poly mesh then smooth after the sim is over with or if you can even do that with a Syflex cloth.

try these steps first…

post the mesh and I’ll have a look at it if I get a chance…

just the (one) mesh, not any syflex or colliders.

Thanks for the tips ill try and run through it again this way. Thanks

I will send you the file with just the character and the pants I will leave them as the low poly version. Still if you do know is it better to sim a low res or can you sim the highres or can you sim then smooth the cloth object. Im not sure about this just started with syflex. Just would like too know for future refference. If not dont worry about it but thanks for the help.

the properiies will depend on how dense the mesh is… so will the global damp.
RTFM (in a nice way)
dense mesh -> silky
low res -> denimy…
ie, the same settings will sim completly different on a hi res and low res mesh… this is why “presets” are useless in syflex (even though it comes with some)

search this forum and read read read… I know there appears to be only 12 (or so) posts… thats just cos its archived… search and you will find.

two things about the file…
1: its maya 7, not everyone is running the latest version :wink:
just export the cloth mesh, I dont waht/need the character as an obj or ASCII

2: zip it and attach it to your post rather than using some fruity fileLink site :wink:

Hey John here is the scene file with just the pants in it. Sorry about the maya7 thing wanst thinking about it and the file was over the size to upload with the character in it. So ill try it with just the pants this time. Thanks for the time.

hmmm… 1:1 scale… not really what I’m used to so these settings might be a little odd.

but it does sim at about a frame a second, not a great sim, but I’ll leave it to you to get it to look good :wink:

massDensity 1.6;
stretchStiff 200;
shearStiff 130;
bendStiff 12;
stretchDamp 2;
shearDamp 1.3;
bendDamp 0.12;
selfEnvelope 0.3;

inGravityY" -0.17;

DampNode.inDamp 0.01;

everything is relative, so dont get freaked out that the gravity is -0.17 you can crank it up by 10 and divide the mass if you like, but the sim will probably slow down by a factor of 10 also…
also you can multiply the stiff and damp by whatever as long as you do them together.

btw,
thats not a mesh I would recommend simulating in the first place…
read the docs… evenly spaced quads… (I think it says that… it should)
also possibly not a good idea to model the belt detail and internal pockets in the cloth mesh… and the cuff at the bottom…
