Surface joining problem

am running into problem sometimes when i try to join 2 surfaces…donno what causes the problem…even though there is a good continuity between the surfaces it wont join…

some times if there are 3 surfaces A B and C then, A and B wont join separately…i have to join A with C and then i have to join A and C with B so that i have ABC joined together…
Please help…
