Superman - WIP

#1

I started a Superman mesh in Blender about a week ago.

The design is based on Alex Ross’s version of the character.

Wow… how did I miss this???

Very nice indeed… Can’t wait to see the final product.

#5

Great stuff.

On of the best blender models i’ve ever seen.

Isn’t it posted in the wrong forum though?

#6

I like it alot so far but I’d lik to know if those are polygons or patches or anything else(my blender modeling experience being quite limited).

edit:Nevermind,I just realised you use splines.

#7

Polygon modeled, subsurf divide X1 to smooth. No splines.

I’ll post some results to the other forums once I’m at a more advanced state. I’d like to see if I can surprise a few people who think you need Max or Lightwave to do anything decent in 3d.

The arms aren’t done on this render, but I wanted to work on textures on this day. VERY ROUGH

Here’s a little idea on the side

I really like that Logo, good job.

Waste of time,if someone thinks you need max,LW or any high-end package to do so,they’re just talking more than they actually sculpt.

#9

Refined upper arms, worked on neck, shoulders, began filling in back. Refined chest a bit more.

#10

Cool it’s getting there

If I can add a thing though;

Being an ex-poly.poly modeler,I would recommend for your next model to get the shoulder/pectorals edgeloops done at first, even before filling otehr parts…It is a problematic area especially with the PbP method so if you add simple geometry there at first, example;A poly/edgeloopfrom teh mid-pec. to the back shoulder…Then the rest of the under arm and the other edgeloops coming from under the arms will be much easier to achive by cutting in additional edges.

Those muscle bits are great with the veins and all (if thats what it is, I’m not familiar with body building or any of that). Can’t wait to see this guy flex those guns :buttrock: Good luck!

#12

I’m not sure I’m getting this right but;Superman using guns??

His guns as in his muscles :stuck_out_tongue:

#14

Ah,no probs.

I should’ve thought of that only hardly ever hear this expression in my language.

My fault.

#15

Looking great shadowman.

I’m thinking your suit test texture is a little too loose of a weave though. :wip:

Superman carries guns, or didn’t you know?

No Worries

Haha, I like that superman pic with the guns but I think this model would do better without it :buttrock:

HOLY CRAP, Is that statue real? That funnier than shit! I’d love to find one of those, but I bet DC has made them hard to get.

I haven’t cooked up final textures for his suit yet. That is the style for the ‘S’ (lifted from Ross’ design), but the fabric - he’s an older guy. I just don’t see him doing the shiny spandex thing. So I might try a few textures with visible fabrics. This is just a rough thing I threw together

#18

I really like what you are doing… Looking great…

#19

Nah… I PShopped the statue pic…

I agree on the spandex thing, but I still think that the weave is way too loose (personal preference ofcourse). The ref pic kind of has a superman winter sweater look which for some reason or another just does not strike me as very super.

As a body boarder (occasionally) I am pretty fond of the textured neoprene suits and they have always struck me as the superhero disguise material of choice… tight but not restrictive and never shiny ala Chris Reeves. I have actually seen a wet suit that had a great texture to it, but don’t have any scans and haven’t located a ref pic to show ya.
