subframe motion blur

#1

hi all,

i have a problem and i want to ask you xsi users out there if there is a solution for that:

i want to fake a fluffy ball by having a ball with a displacement map on it.
by animating this ball very fast in a subframe range (lets say from frame 0 to 1 in a loop) and then applying motion blur to it, i want to achieve a fluffy look.
i know that method from lightwave and other 3d apps, where you can set the subframe samples in the motion blur setup to get the result, but how can i do that in xsi?

Wil, I’m afraid that mr’s MB is not as flexible for such tricks. I have not been able to replicate the sketch style I developed in LW with SI because of it. You might be able to get what you need though by using a post blur, which you setup on the pass level. I am away from my system right now, so I can not point you to the specific filter, but you should be able to find it on your own.
