Hi to all on CG Society,
I have been asked by the owner of a website to emulate an image he had gotten done a few years ago, but with a few minor adjustments. As you can see from the image below (1), this is a keyhole with light rays popping through, the software i am using is 3ds max and after effects.
My first thoughts were just to create the scene in max and render using mental ray with 1 or 2 volume lights to emulate the light rays, this is proving more hassle than its worth as each render is taking around 50 minutes to produce (im an amatuer at best, so i dont know how to reduce render time without compromising the effect of the lights).
In image (2) this as close as ive gotten, by editing in After effects and photoshop, although the gentleman was impressed, he asked for more ambient lighting and a wider keyhole… back to the start i went…
Ive also included my volume lights and final gather settings, i dont know if im barking up the wrong tree or if im almost there, but any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
Ive also been using ‘cc light rays’ in after effects but as im really still learning AE thats proving a hassle also…
i do hope someone can help.
