Well, I don’t know if I’ll be bale to produce a high-level picture but I’m sure I’ll enjoy and learn a lot from this experience !

Well… I’m entering this challenge with a “I’m here to learn” spirit so, if I commit any error please give me an advice.

This is the first concept. I called it “Sirens’ game” cause it describes the most popular game of sirens’ world : kid the human !
They masquerade themself with something like a fish-like harmour and wins the one that goes nearest to the humans’ boat.

I think it’s a quite complex scene, isn’t it?

HI Serena,

I like a lot your idea,:scream: its funny they disguised them self as fish, or something else, and I think it is strange a creature that its allready half fish disguised as fish,its so funny clever, and very “avant-garde”… it is complex the subject, but definitely a good start.my only suggestion,will be that start its a bit to predictable, since we still see the mermaids, in their element, and the humans out side of theirs. Try to have fun more in the same concept (because got lots of potential) and push the limits a bit as much strange you can.:thumbsup: nice sketch…I like all your art very impresive.

I dont think you need the sirens in the foreground … just make the boat the center and put lots of sirens around it pretending to be fish :smiley:

@Axel : well man, I studied your words and I developed this solution. As you can see humans are now on their element and mermaids too. I really want to thank you cause this solution is absolutely more challenging, for perspective, for boats (I must study everything about them before the final sketch) for details and I hope for composition too.
Please if you have got more suggestion, write them all !

@Adrian : nice to see you there and thanks for checking man ! Well to be honest the half-human figures on foregreound are my “cherry on the cake” cause anatomy is for me a pleasure. And to be honest, considering the level of details and the quantity of hour I’ll spend on this project I absolutely need this cherry, or the end will be hard…very hard.

Hi Serena,
I like the new path you took for your idea, the movement of the mermaids reads very nice
I also like the humans in their “element” the ships, but what I meant by twisting the idea a bit more its not offering something that they have seem already, we know for mythology the mermaids, were good playing games to the humans in the ships. So twist that a bit more. what they can do, and the humans, that we haven’t seen before, and that will demonstrate the strange point of this
for example a ship full of mermaids
and the Sailors not taking attention to them but to the seagulls
its not a very good idea I am sure you can come out with better, but hope I have explain my self better, since I really like your idea. Have fun! With anatomy I like it to.:smiley:

What do you think about putting humans again in the water and describe mermaids on boats of course fishing for humans?

Hi Serena, you are too kind, I m just happy to helping on any little way I can, to such a talented artist. About your idea I love that,:smiley: I like mermaids been now the one play by the beauty (or better the ugliness) of the humans…even for music you can give them some instruments of jazz or something…instead of the singing part?..

And don worry about English its not my 1sth language as well so I do struggle form time to time to explain my self…:rolleyes:

Oh well axel, thank you very much.
This morning I had a talk with my mum and she suggested me to change subject. I’ve to admit that the develope marmaids’ picture is killing my heart (so maybe I’ll paint it too by myself) but my mum is right.
For this reason I decided to completely change subject and this is the new concept :

After read Intervain’s comment, I went check myself your portifolio and yes, you are good painting horses… and everything else that I saw there. I think the new adea will be a show stop.

Love the horses idea, they have great faces for great expressions lots of potential with it and I like the very good fun factor already with out even seen them in detail. You will made them fantastic…:thumbsup:

About your mermaids we will miss them! But hope to see that idea in colors in your portfolio, because I love mermaids to!:slight_smile:

Serena, I cannot wait to see how this one will turn out. You’re amazing at painting horses (and most other things of course) and I just know this will turn out fantastic! The horse with his head thrown back is so funny :smiley:

Hi all…

That sketch where the horses are playing cards, remembered me the typical “dogs playing cards” painting that poster was very famous in the 80s :stuck_out_tongue:

I think that the cowboys waiting their horses outside while the horses are playing cards and drinking is a good idea.

Only is needed to change the composition. though…

Sorry for the crits… :S is for helping… keep going dude…

Hey Serena, really nice sketch and concept! and for sure a strange behavior, with many and funny posibilities - the scene can be not only in the wild west, maybe in a race course… i dont know… thinking aloud :smiley: … -

Horses that rend humans for fun. (i love riding horses …i hope one day they will not turn to me =_=. Expecially because i ride a stallion @.@)

@Axel : man, be sure that I’ll develop the mermaids’ picture too, cause I already have got it in my mind!

@Norving : first of all thank you for checking. I googled for the “dogs playing cards” and I looked at the picture. I honestly do not think that changing the angle of the viewing point can help at this time cause the “core” is in the concept similarity : dogs are animals like horses and they are playing poker. Honestly…I’m too in love with this picture to freely tell you " ok I trash this concept and I think to another one". But please, recheck this thread cause I want your critics and suggestions!

@Fernando : yes it’s a great idea but a race course is something “elite” while mc donalds and “american shopping” is worldwide known and for this reason it can be better understood by viewers. This is the basic criteria I’ve used to set up this scene. Thank you for your comment !

@Claudio : Lucky man you are ! I still have to learn but here it costs too much so in the meantime I learn their anatomy :slight_smile:

Well, this is a first color-choice idea. I really don’t know if I want it in full sun or at the sunshine.
