Strange Behavior (Illustration) Entry: Mateja Petkovic
Most of work I’ve seen here are comical/funny.
I have decided to do something serious(realistic).
When I red subject of this challenge i immediately thought about circus, actually circus people who work and live there,
because i always wonder, and always been strange to me, what happens behind scene.
There strange behavior, in this idea that i wanted to explore, was in there unusual jobs that they do in
order to earn money and survive. But this is more background story.
The time, when this story is happening, is late 19th and beginning of 20 century. Because of there fisical deformation,
which are strange to some people even today, they were left by There families to live on streets and to survive.
In that period medicine couldn’t understand and find solution to there problems, so most of them joint Circus,
as “something that World haven’t seen yet”!
More then strange behavior(or myths that exist in those days about what they do, or what are they, where they came from), i wanted to show there relationships, that was made in that community.
Love, friendships, business partners etc., develop beetwin them over years.
Idea was to show Them in there private chambers, away from other people/crowd, amusing them self’s, relaxing, talking, leafing etc.
Most difficult part is to achieve realism, because it’s very thin line to become caricature.
I hope i was understandable, on my Tarzan inglish.
Greetings
Mateja
gosh I LOVE this! Looks like those turn of the century lytographs! Fantastic already and keeps getting better and better :bounce: ![]()
Great update! I understand what you mean about the concept and I like it! It could
actually be considered as Strange behavior!
I was just wondering whether you are using reference material for the folds and wrinkles
in the clothing, they look very natural!
Thanks!
Tnx Intervain,
I saw that wip of Ingres that you did, excellent stuff.
I am glad that you came by i watch this tread.

On some yes( 3 legged man/ coat), on lady and her husband i didn’t use anything, just by sens.
I have to clap this, sincerely, I love it! Is a very interesting piece. Reminds me of the circus, modernism, Rembrant, really! LOL And the little husband remind me of Lautrec!
God Luck! I will have an eye on this. An congratulations for the piece.
Still have allot to do. I was thinking to ad a monkey on bicycle or something like that, beside Jojo man-dog, elephant man, bearded woman and Siamese twins.
I need help with background. I will probably be some kind of circus tent, but i can’t see it clearly in my head.
Has anyone have any suggestion or idea?
Thanks
Mateja
That is awesome stuff you got there
It really reminds me of the Monty Python/Black Adder humour
Hey I like your entry, it’s interesting. Great paint job going on, it’s nice to see progress. Definitely stands out in many concepts…
I forgot, I also had a suggestion for another character, or perhaps as an add on to one of your characters.
If you’ve ever seen an episode of the X-Files called “Humbug,” it features a circus town and a creature called the Feejee Mermaid, which turns out to be a type of conjointed twin of a performer who can detach himself from his brother.
I don’t know hwo you would do it, but it immediately came to my mind when I read your descriptions and ideas.
Here’s a picture just for reference:
Thnx people!

Yeah, it’s a kind a Monty Payton type of humor(i like them allot), and thnx on idea for new “freak”, but i have doubts about this idea.
Not shore if i am going to right direction.
Cheers
