Latest Update: Concept Sketch or 3D pre-visualization: Dragon sketch wip

‘If it’s not one thing it’s your mother’ Peter Kay UK comedian. As there is nothing stranger than your own family’s behaviour, I’m doing Dracula’s Mum dragging him away from one of those inappropriate women that he finds himself attracted to. I never understood why Dracula would leave those 3 (count them!!) hot brides of his and go shuffling off to England after Mina. Not too sure of it as an idea as I have a couple of others which I’ll post asap. Any help gratefully received! Thanks
Young dragons learning to smoke! Seemed funny at 3 in the morning. Not sure whether to put them in a school playground or out in the wilds (dragon country)? Any thoughts, ideas, criticisms - help really very welcome.
Hehe, like the idea of the young dragons learning to smoke because no smoke without fire as they say
would be fun if you tied this toghether with firebreathing dragons, older dragons teaching the young ones to ignite their breath with cigarettes? who knows how dragons do it…
Keep it up! will check by later.
Hey Mark, I like the dragons idea, can be really funny concept
. Good Luck and looking forward for the progress of your idea

Thanks for your speedy response. I’m not sure about including adult dragons - I was going for the look of young teenage dragons trying out ‘smoking’ for the first time in the corner of the school field or behind the gym (which is where I tried smoking for the first and fortunately the last time - apparently you have to persevere at it) So I’m looking for a sort of illicit activity look to the whole piece. I’ll need a lookout in the piece. Should I costume them up to make them look young? Or just go for big eyes, small wings and little teeth?

Hola and that’s the extent of my spanish. Thank you for your comments. I think I will go with the dragons. And I like your insects ruling the world concepts - which they kind of do speaking purely from a biological standpoint.
Hey, ah, see your point and where you want to go, adult dragons can get serious very fast. Maybe one of the baby dragons could have a spontaneous combustion because of the cigarette?
first time they try after all. hehe sorry for your experience behind the gym ^^but you learnt something good so. Sneaking around with a blend of fright and excitement, judging by the facial expressions on your dragons now you are capable of making this concept really work
so keep at it, about the clothes i dont think you should use to much but instead use the pieces of clothes to describe personality, like one tuff dragon with a leather jacket. Only neccesary items, you know what i mean? otherwise use the teeth and big eyes and so on, will look great
Sneaky sneaky, See you around!
I personally like the vampire concept more, but they are both very good ideas. I think there are more possibilities for the vampire concept for comedy and weirdness, though they may be too adult themed for a contest like this. Personally when I saw the image it made me think of a mother catching her son ummm… “making whopee” and pulling him away.
Given the dark nature of the idea of dracula, I think that angle could help you make it even more interesting. Perhaps there is another young lady or two, and the vampire is pulled away by his mother covered in blood in his boxer shorts?
Maybe its just my sick mind, but I think its pretty funny.
Some playing with dragons looks and colours. Very rough colour jobs. I am going to really have to work on the painting - I tend to do colouring in!
Am beginning to think on the background too. Think I’ll go with dragons under an overhang in a sort of desert location. Next up I suppose is lineart. Am enjoying it though hope you are too!
In response to Killer-instinct93 (cool name) post, I’ve played around with your suggestions. Composition is a bit flat at the moment as I was just trying to get lines on paper. I quite liked dracula’s mother getting in the way of his ‘love(?) life’ Thought it might be autobiographical and cathartic to do. Could it be too ‘adult’ for this theme? I don’t think so as my style is quite cartoony - won’t be going for any photorealism here. I don’t know! There’s lots of time so any suggestions, further thoughts very very welcome. Peace to you all.
I am playing around with ideas. Originally I was going to have the dragons ‘smoking’ with one coughing and the others looking on. Now I’m wondering if logically or more strangely if dragons actually produce fire at a less polite end. I’ll still be going for that sense of it being a forbidden activity, so behind the gym with a group of admiring and concerned young dragons looking on. Or am I going with Dracula’s mother? Any comments very gratefully received. Peace!
From an orginality point of view the dracula idea wins and it has a lot of possibilites to be comical. There are alot of dragons around here in the forum but that idea has a lot of potential too depending on how it developes, would be nice to see a “complete” sketch with dragons as you did with dracula
That would proboably make it easier. not fair for the dragons otherwise
See you around.
