Latest Update: Concept Sketch or 3D pre-visualization: Big surprise

#2

This is the very first loose sketch of my entry “big surprise”. (I might even change the title later) The man in the picture is an ex-military man that is trying to impress a girl he’s just met by showing her his expert marksmanship skills at a shooting range. Turns out he’s very surprised to find out that this seemingly ultra-feminine woman has some serious shooting skills herself, and has even outdone him. I plan on making both people in 3D and realistic, with slightly exaggerated expressions. I definitely welcome feedback and any ideas as to how I can really get this image to come off. Only change I see that I’m definitely gonna make this early on is the overall size of the woman. Right now it looks like there may be some ambiguity as to if she is the man’s love interest or his daughter because of her size compared to him.

Hey David, nice sketch, and nice idea  I think you can put the chick in action, shooting, and the man with a face of " what??? holy bullets !! " Only a comment  Good luck and looking forward for more updates !

Ferx,

Hey thanks for the positive feedback on my sketch and actually that’s a good idea you have as to how I could maybe add more impact to the piece. I’ll try it out as another sketch while I’m gathering references for the shooting range and all the other components of the scene I have to build in 3D in addition to the two people. By the way, good luck to you in this contest also.

At this point I think the concept is lacking in its strangeness. It is very possible that a petite girl can still both a) like guns and b) be a good shooter. There isn’t anything that is physically stopping her from acting in that manner.

I think an easy way to fix that is to either age her (either way, much older or much younger) or to change her into something else completely (either by species or a big personality change).

Good point killer-instinct93, thinking back I remember reading about a petite lady that drove big rigs (had a perfect driving record too), so I’m definitely not gonna push the concept of it being strange that a petite lady can shoot.

I’m not gonna go too young with the depiction of the girl though, might be a little unsettling that a guy would have a very young girl handling a full-sized gun at a firing range. I could go older with the lady like you suggested though, but to get that off I would probably have to really exaggerate the age (posture, wrinkling) of the lady and that might likely come off as being offensive to people up in age.

I don’t know though, I think it would be pretty uncommon to see a very attractive, very feminine, club-going woman that can both handle a desert eagle 50mm handgun AND can rival the skill of an ex-soldier at a shooting range. I’m really trying to make the image come off by exaggerating the posture of the woman (very feminine pose), and exaggerating the size of the gun also. I’ll also try to make it clear to the viewer that she’s a club-goer by putting in the platform heels, the purse, and what the girl will have on. If I’m successful, I know the image overall will still pretty much fringe on a sight-gag, but I’ll pour everything I can into making every component of the image as high-quality as I can.

An update is on the way really soon, just hard to find time working two jobs (mainly so I can afford photoshop CS3 extended).
