This is a concept that I came up with for the challenge. First idea, very rough sketch.

I like the lady’s proportions. Very simple.
What’s she giving to / taking from the alien?

I’m thinking she is either going to be handing him money or a card. As I have been sitting here looking at this I think I am going to expand the image to be a long line of monsters. She will be the fairy god mother standing at the edge of the pearly gates… giving each monster their next assignment…lol. a card with a childs name on it. Either that or they will already have their cards standing in line checking them out and she will be paying them for their work.

Well, I think I am opting out of this challenge. :frowning: This was going to be my first challenge and I am very sad to say I am not going to participate. My computer has crashed and I unfortunately don’t have the money to get it fixed right now. I have been working on my boyfriends computer and it’s absolutely impossible… it has less memory than my cat and is slower than a snail…and my trial version of CS3 is almost up on his computer. I have the full version on mine but cannot get to it. It’s really a terrible feeling as an artist to want so bad to dig your heels in and succeed…even if it’s a successful failure… and not be able to. I guess I can keep the finished piece in my head for safe keeping and maybe finish it when my computer is working, just for kicks. Good luck to you all… everyone here is amazing~

                                                                                       Cheers,
                                                                                             Erica

That’s Terrible!! Sorry to hear of your misfortune! I will be thinking positive thoughts for you though, as you never know when luck might turn around! :hmm:

Thank you for the kind words. I’ve decided that I should just keep sketching in whatever I can until my demo of Adobe runs out. Here is an update of my concept… still sketchin’ nothing finalized yet but I’m beginning to like it more and more. comments welcome.

ps… I don’t know if I’m adding my updates correctly? I didn’t save my original entry page so if anyone knows if I am doing this wrong by just adding a post… let me know, for example how do I update my image so that it shows on my thumbnail in the forum?

#9

I think I posted this wrong the first time so I apologize for the double post… I was trying to get my thumbnail to update.

Kudos to you for spiting the circumstances.

If I may make the suggestion, try getting the colors to fit within a pallette. Your colors look very graphic right now and not as if they’re in one mutually lit scene.

#11

Thanks for the suggestion. I am fairly new to this so do you have any Adobe tips for adjusting the colors more easily to try different ideas out?

Oh MY FRICKIN’ GOD! I think I may have fixed my own computer! :0) :0) YESSSSSSSSSSSS! I may not be out of this challenge just yet~

3 CHEERS FOR ROOKIES!!

Hooray!
Hooray!
Hooray!

On top of that all I’ve been doing is thinking about school and how I think I am going to actually change programs and schools soon from Fine Arts to Digital Animation. Now that I can use the programs on my computer I can actually start learning, I have Maya and Zbrush and CS2 already just haven’t chipped away at Maya and Zbrush the way I wanted because of all the computer issues. This means I can actually order that 3D Buzz maya fundamentals video and get started!

Oh happy day singing

Cheers~Erica

I really like the work for your entry so far, I hope you can continue. Here is a link to a cheap but brilliant painting package for $25 which may be a Photoshop substitute for you.
