Here’s the shaders that I’m using in Maya for the doggiebot. Most of them are going to be really reflective.

Here are the settings on one of his main shaders. I’m using a mentalray shader for some nice flecky paintyness, and because I really like the reflection quality of the shader.
Here’s the doggie lit with just some Final Gathering inside a gray sphere. I like the sparkly metallic shader.
And here’s the model with reflectivity and shadows turned on. Lookin’ much better. You can see how reflective and shiny the materials are now. Of course they’re just reflecting the plain sphere that’s around them. I’m gonna change that next with some some image based lighting and reflections.
Very nice and funny concept. I liked a lot your idea and The “doggie” design!, its great !! ![]()
Why not doggie explores an organic subject instead of a metallic object??? I think will be nice to put face to face the robotic and the organic, only a comment
Good luck and fore sure I’m going to follow this thread !
So, I want to light this scene with a high dynamic range image. I also want to capture lighting that’s at floor level. So I took 5 different exposures of a light probe that I placed on the floor of the hallway in my mother’s house. Then I used photoshop to combine them into one HDR image. I’ll use that for the image based lighting and it should also make for some nifty reflections too.
You have no idea how bad i want to see this done, you’re doing a great work!!
Digg it:thumbsup:
Here’s a close up of the the surfaces with the new HDRI lighting. I’m really pleased with the way the shaders are handling the reflections. Next up, the final render.
This robot is outfitted with all the latest detection gear, sensors, and recording devices. But he’s also a dog. So, he’s not exactly investigating what the manufacturer and owner might have wanted.
This piece was inspired by my two strangely behaved, large, pet dogs. As well as my backyard.
Ohhhh !! !! It took me by surprise that you’re done already, I could write here something like: ‘you could put an element on the background or something’, but i really don’t wanna, this pic makes me fond of 3-D again, something i have felt very very few times lately. So… i don’t care bout’ the background anymore.
I don’t know if is the beautiful palette, the simplicity of the concept, or the whacky model, or the fact it doesn’t have any fancy fur effects (so tired of it) … I just plain like it a lot!
Best Luck Brian, thanks for the candy:).
The fact that you make me think that of a dog sniffing a turd just makes it even more meaningful:D.
I hadda drop by and see it again.
Wonderful character that is full of personality. A very humourous observation and skillfully done. Good luck.

Ha, come back for a wiff as many times as you like Gabriel.
Thanks a lot for the feedback Steve!
Whoa! I didn’t even see this as a wip - great job!
Wonderful modeling, Very funny, original concept. ![]()

I too had to come by for a wiff! Awesome work! Great design and it just has this slick appeal that brings your eye all over the place until it stops right where it should at the punch line, the gag, the poop if you will.
Good stuff!
