It’s been a while, but this one is too good to pass up. I tend to dither a bit coming up with an idea, but i’ve got one fairly firmly in my mind, so hopefully it will stick. Sketches to follow shortly.

A very rough sketch to get a concrete form to the idea in my head:

An old man fishing in the sky. Perfectly normal, seeing as it’s skyfish season in the desert.
Perhaps the armchair was a bit much, but dang it, he prefers to be comfortable.

WOW! Liked a lot the Salvador Dali surreal style! :bounce: Really looking forward to see it animated!

#5

Ha! I like it a lot. Upon seeing the thumbnail I thought it was a Larry Walters tribute. I’d love to see very sandy (dry) colored fish and a very slimey Bootstrap Bill-ish looking fisherman. But that’s just me. Good luck.

#6

Did you just say skyfish season already begun? Damn, I thought it was only next month. Seems I’m gonna miss it this year again…

At least I’ll be able to watch it from my seat, thanks to you. I’m definitely gonna follow your progress.

Hi!

It’s a fun idea! There is a method (in asia as I know) to catch flying bats. They use not ballon but kites to pull up a lot of hooks…

About your picture: maybe the belly of the fishes could be blue (like the sky) and the backs the color of the sand, you couldn’t see them from below and neither the preadors from the upside. (You know, somehow like the camouflage of the real fishes.)

Good luck!

Teehee - this topic is straight up your alley  - best of luck Martin!

I think you could just submit a self portrait.

#9

awesome idea erilaz! Good luck

lol… LYW Rebecca

Erilaz, you’re such a genuinely humorous presence on these forums, it’s great to see you in this challenge.

Wacky concept too, it does have a real surrealist vibe to it already

#11

funny and original idea, Martin! you could exaggerate it a bit by making him throw out the hook in the air catching poor little bird kids from their parents who are on their way to bahamas with their suitcases for a sunny vacation frm the cold north… or… :hmm:

Hello Martin!

I like the idea - BUT - you could have him in a bikini, with two grapefruit halves strapped to his head, which in turn are plugged into a swan.

I also think it would be extremely foolish for him not to have a fishing companion… Say, a dog?

No wait! A balloon dog…

(I’ll stop now)

Anubis3D: Heh… i never thought of it like that! Thanks!

SantoAnderson: You know, the second I made the balloon I thought of him, but this guy is far more grounded.

Frotze: Yeah, unfortunately all the fish licenses are taken. But headmole season is right round the corner!

p.golem: I’d be interested to know more about those bats. Sounds really intriguing!

Rebecca: I tried the self portrait idea, and it ended up punching me in the face. Such violent vanity… sheesh!

Intervain: Thanks man… look forward to seeing yours too!

DaddyMack: Aww… shucks, thanks man. I hope I can keep you entertained!

fellah: Eep! Thanks Anders. I hope I get the time to bask in the glory of your awesome work this time around. You’re always 7 steps ahead in great ideas!

AJ_23: Mr. Jefferies, if anyone is mad enough to stand up against you in a competition of strange behaviour, they have a death wish. I take my sombrero off to you sir!

lemasterjg: I’ve got a few ideas on how the animation will play out. It will be fairly soothing.

Krispo: Thanks Jose!

ania: Thanks Anna. I’ll have an update pronto!

Well, you’ve got to start somewhere right? It’s not the most impressive of models, but gosh darn it, it looks elegant!

Mmmm… tasty clean mesh…

#18

Great theme! Although I would say that cos I thought of the same thing (but after you did - I didn’t copy, honest!! ) Damn, my guy’s even got the same hat! No worries, though, it just shows that it’s a good idea! Good luck, can’t wait to see how your fish turn out.

Just more seafood. He’s been a tricky one, as i’m not used to doing fish topology! A bit messy at this stage, but he’ll clean up as time goes on.
