Still: SPITFIRE - Fighter Jet for my Upcoming SFX Project!

#1

Guys, how u doin’?

I just made this spitfire, I would consider the modeling & texturing is completed, Although I might still need to tweak around with lotsa stuffs before I started my SFX project! :scream:

Anyway let me know what you think of it!

Cheers

P.S. I didn’t really put much effort on modeling, cause this is gonna be used in SFX project (Gonna Explode it :scream: ), modeling was done in 3-4 hours, texturing took me 8-9 hours.

Hi xenoz

I think for the time you need it is done very well, and you did a good job on the textures.

But it is not really looking like a spitfire:sad: , but when you use it for an animation and it is far away…no problem  .

Hope you post the sfx too when you are finished…

Hey, thanks Byte! Hmm, did I get wrong references or it’s me that didn’t model it like Spitfire  Anyway, thanks a lot, and I will post my SFX as soon as It’s done!

Ciao

No no its not that bad  . It has the basics of a spitfire, but the proportions are a little bit …wrong. Maybe this picture tells what i mean.

I think this is nice for the prupose is needed. I think what you should do is work on the canopy a little bit (if it will be visible at all) - also your nose cross section (not the cone) seems to be slightly triangular (toblerone-ish?) but I don’t think that’s how the nose section is…but more importantly I would work on the textures a tad, reduce the saturation of the blue on the RAF symbol, so it’s a darker and more faded colour, and stick a registration on the tail section…but as I said it looks like you got a good spitfire model for blowing up!

The model/render looks like very low polygon from game. I dont know if you need more details for the explotion but isnt the airplane flying before the vfx shot? You gonna make only the Vfx shot for test?
Share the final one with the particles!!!

#7

Okay Byte, I know what you meant now  Thanks!

Well oj3332, it shouldn’t be that saturated actually, I retouched the colour from photoshop! I thought it was gonna be better, anyway see the image below (untouched + spec & bump map updated) for comparison!

marmphi the reason why it looks low poly, because Indeed I wanted it to be sorta low poly, I’m really scared If I do high poly it will chuck up the rendering time, as it’s gonna explode and calculate thousands of particles. Also as I said before, I didn’t really put much effort in modeling  I’m gonna keep the rendering time as minimum as possible!

Cheers!

It’s also not a ‘Jet’. You have to go forward in history a few more years before Jets were regularly flying in the skies.

#9

[left]Ok lets explode this airplane :scream: :scream: :scream: . What app are you using?

#10

Ha ha ha, it’s not? Sorry … err … :scream: But I can’t edit the Topic Description again, can’t I? , anyway thanks dude for the correction

I’m with Max rite now, gonna use the PFlow and Reactor to help me Explode that thing

#11

its looks like ready to be exploded. post the update . .

#12

Updates!!!

Any Comments on the water? I’ve been trying so hard to make it look real, but this is what I got so far!

#13

i was waiting for a fire (explode) update but water cames out !!!
have a look at dreamscape plugin it is looking good for water and afterburn for exploding stuff.

Hey Marmphi!

Thanks, I’ll be workin on the fire stuffs soon, but that sea scene would be the place to explode  so I decided to do that first!

Thanks for showing me those plugins, but right now, I really don’t wanna use any third party plugins, so I have to think hard utilising what is provided there.

Maybe I’ll try those plugins someday, but not now mate, not now …

#15

Guys!! Here are some shots from my SFX project!!!

 It’s so hard to get everything right!!! Also I’m not really happy with the result, I tried so hard to fake the water, do the splash and the explotion, still they don’t look real! Anyway, this is my first time doing stuffs with particle and physics, I guess I have to compromise with it!

Comments & Critique Please!

P.S. I’m still rendering now, I was wondering if ya guys still wanna see the animation later on?

#16

it’s looking very good to me so far!

I would still like to see the final animation very much!

The only suggestion I would make is (I have been unfortunate enough to see 2 live crashes of very similar aircraft like this and) there really should be thick black smoke and less fire.

Other than that it looks really exciting!

cheers,
Olz

#17

btw!

for the water…hmm…tricky one without plugins…go from where you are now…for the diffuse or self-illumination slot try adding a falloff map (perpendicular/parallel) and fiddle with it…gives a kinda watery look. Also put a very fine bump map onto that…I dunno what else to suggest really… you could probably create some kind of wave/wake by makin a special animated map with foam and also using that along with white particles…and also a FFD on the water (if its a high res grid)…hope that helps you sorta…

cheers,
Olz.

#18

Thanks, I’ll post a new thread soon as I’m done rendering!

 You’ve seen twice live crashes??? Where were you atm??
Well, you are so true about thick black smoke, but I don’t have time anymore!
Actually I got plenty stuffs in mind, but could not implement it cause it got freezed alot, you know, there are certain things that just don’t work! So I had to find ways to get away with 'em!

Thanks for the comment dude!!

#19

heh…yeh…I was working at the Biggin Hill airshow (near London) in 2001 I think…on the first day a de havilland went down and then the next day a king cobra went down…their first incident in 40 years I think…it sucked…but anyway…can’t go off topic!

hey can I ask is this just a test or are you using it for a movie? It would be nice to see a proper dogfight…

if you made it the english channel, you could have a whole squadron of spitfires flying over the cliffs of dover out to the sea…that would be an awesome sight
