Steampunk Myths and Legends Entry: Wesley Martin
My original idea was do to david and goliath, but i decided that was probably being done by lots of others already…
I did a little more painting to flesh this idea out a bit more, but decided I’m not sure if i like the airships carrying the gardens…
I thought it would be cooler if the gardens were on the top of the airships. I will probably go with a composition similar to this, but i need to go in and design more to make it steampunk…ish.
Hey Wesley,
Your idea about the gardens of Babylon hanging and floating , sounds really cool, very original
Perhaps you need to explore a bit your composition, maybe a a top view to see how the gardens fligt over clouds and earth, only a comment
Good luck and waiting for more updates
Cheers mate!!
Starting out my final painting I wanted to do a close up scene of one garden, with the entire airship in the background for perspective.
I decided the previous composition wasn’t working because it was impossible to be standing, looking at it from that angle. I wanted to ground the camera. This is after a lot more frustration trying to work it out. Still not there…
I finally found a composition I liked because it feels more like you are standing there looking out over the gardens. I’m open to any suggestions on improving it.
Now to work in some solid forms!
Blocking in value and color for everything, trying to make it more interesting. I also decided it would be cooler if the gardens were on biplanes~
First of all…very unique concept. I would like to see more detail get done in your images! And prefer on working on a color tone to set the MOOD for the image. As the image is posed up above in the sky…Lightning is essential along with shadows.
Make sure you get 'em right!![]()
hey dude! we have the same theme!!
The process in this thread is really interesting - it’s nice to see other people start over from scratch as many times as I do
as the guy before me said the lighting up in the sky could be absolutely spectacular! really strange moods could come out of your setting - look at some cockpit airplane photos maybe for reference on moods and lighting!
the flying planes are nice but the image seems a bit empty at the moment - either use this as a theme (you ARE up in the sky…kind of empty up there) or fill it up - the composition looks a little unfinished to me as it is now.
good luck!
cheers, n.
