Steampunk Myths and Legends Entry: Sabrina Bott

#141

Morning Sabie…

yep, the diver comes good… just the torso appear too narrow… but that will be maybe very useful to add him his steampunk elements…
Nice start of week miss :wavey:

Good Morning!

Thanks Tony for the constant support, don’t know how I’ll make it without the “Keep going”!

Mark, great to hear that you like the new perspective and you have some god points for the diver, thanks!

Hey Magda, thanks for the visit!:wavey:

Hey Fotis, and I can’t wait to see more updates of your work, though I admit that I had a little motivation crisis about my concept and modeling technic , when I saw your last updates. You make some wonderful things with zBrush and hard surfaces - I’ve never tried this and I hope you’ll have some time later for a little “making of”…only one of the reasons I want to see your work on the winner list! At the moment yours is the one work that impresses me most, both concept and modeling wise:thumbsup: …

Hey Kinanh, well, I can’t possibly miss this post:D …thank you!

Hey Jim, thanks and I think he means not actually a fish eye lens, but a more regular wide-angle lens…

Yes, as soon as I know the direction myself;) …Thanks for your interest Aaron!

Hi Roshan, yes, a lot of details are planned, I just need the time to add them all…

Good Morning Steph, glad to hear that you like the progress!

Maybe a mix between those 2 ?
Exactly what I’ve planned, I show it with one of the next updates. And about a diver riding a bike…nothing is impossible:D , only that I’d be happy to find the time for the absolut necessary stuff…

Morning Lolo!

… just the torso appear too narrow…
hmm, yes, just for the moment, I’ll push this up later when the metal parts are in place. He already gained some volume for the next update, you’ll see it soon!

Have all a great start in the week!

Good morning Sabrina! I also like Mark’s comments. And your idea of the old leather for the suit is very cool, even if it doesn’t make much sense, it seems very Steampunkish to me!

Will you be using ZBrush on the characters?!

Looking forward to the update!

#144

Thanks for your visit Christopher and for supporting the idea of a leather suit for deep see diving! And yes, there will be a little zbrushing later, though I make all the low poly modeling in max, I like to use zBrush for some texture painting, adding folds to clothes and stuff like this…

Not much progress actually, some other stuff has come up and I have to take a little break here, but I can show what I’ve done so far with the next update…

#145

At the moment he looks more like a underwater garbage collector, the textures are of course temporary. I’m still missing the real steampunk feeling…so more details to add, all suggestions are welcome!

#146

Morning Sabie… what to say ?

I don’t have any crit this time about the modeling… and his global proportions… just very very good…

waouw… and a bit more !

…very well designed…

Hello Sabrina.
This is looking real good I think. Maybe his head looks a bit large inn there but that may be a result of the glass maybe.
Personaly I think you could go for a bit more radical design on the helmet and make it larger. There was some cool diving suit designs in the “20.000 league under the sea” film I remember. cant find any photos of it on the web right now though.
Also if you want to go into more details on the suit. It used to be made of heavy duty cloth I think and the fabric gets squeezed to the body if you know what i mean.

but all over looking good so far girl.

PS.
Yes and when looking at hte face in the helmet… Is it Laurent i see in there??

#148

hahaha… the vision of horror !

#149

Cool! Another update from Sabrina. And it’s another really good one. That modeling is superb. For steampunking it, well I suppose one idea would be to look for any place that could do with some good old-fashioned gears/cogs or levers and I’d be making them a bit oversized so they’d be noticed. For example those little wheels alongside the air tubes could be a bit bigger. And maybe some brass or copper metals since they seem to be so closely associated with the steampunk genre. But to be honest, what you’ve done already is looking really good

#150

Like i said your concept is one of my favourites.
You can add a lot to the mood and volumetrics there.
The diver looks superb so far.I like the extra volume that shows he is in a suit and
I agree about some extra elements bolts etc that could be more steampunkish i think.
Thank u for your kind words. I havent used something special regarding zbrush
but when i have free time i ll upload some making of.Its just a matter of preference.
You re doing a great job and cant wait to see more updates of the diver textured .
Keep it up Sabrina

#151

Great update! Im also having trouble making my things look my steam punky.

#152

exccellent work, the scubadiver looks nice, continue Sabie !

#153

wow that looks good  I like it alot the textures are so nice and realistic keep going :wip:

#154

Beautiful job on the diver, Sabie! No crits here. I kind of like the yellow too, so maybe have him in yellowish leather? As for steampunk details - what’s his tasks out there? would he maybe need some kind of tool or machinery?
Wonderful work as usual!

#155

Hi Sabrina,

Yeah, the leather could offer some very nice texturing opportunities. Nice update on the diving suit! You said you were going to do some ZBrushing later, does that mean all this was done all in MAX?! :surprised I’d really love to see a wireframe!

I agree with the previous suggestions. What I would add is that the air tubes seem really…funny. From the front they look like Mickey Mouse ears! Maybe try attaching them in other places. Or not attaching them symetrically.

Also, here are a few pictures I found, (you might already have found them but) I thought they might be of help!

Good Morning!

Lolo, ah, thank you, sometimes girls just need some compliments:D …

why, you don’t like diving?

Per, I have another look on the head proportions, thanks for the hint! I know this crazy outfit you’re talking about, but I’ve just decided to give him no full armour. About the suit:

I’m not really sure what you mean, should it be more like a catsuit or more puffed up?
Unfortunately it’s not Laurent diving there, he’s much too busy and since now he failed to give me a modeling session - so I always end up with only the second best models:D ! Actually it’s the low poly version of a guy I’ve worked on in my sketchbook thread, perhaps I can give the lady a photograph of him in the hands…

Thanks for the nice comment Mark! And of course the metal parts will be brass and copper, the texture is just temporary until I find the time to unwrap the stuff…I’ve not really an idea where to add some gears, but perhaps I’ve some inspiration later…

Hi Fotis, oh, you put a lot of pressure here on me:scream: …thanks a lot for your nice words. And I definitely look forward to some inside of your zBrush work, when you’re finished with your entry!

Thank you James and Gilles! By the way Gilles, I’ve heard you’ve been eaten by the Gevaudan’s Beast, glad to see now that this was only a myth…I hope you’ll find some time to continue with your entry!

You see realistic textures, Tony? I’ve not even started, but I promise I keep going!

Morning Gunie, yep, somehow I want to keep this coloring, it should be a nice contrast to the overall greenish blue tint I’ve planned…

A really good question and perhaps the answer to my “more steampunk”-question. He can handle a machine with a lot of gears…an underwater-window-cleaner or something like this. Always great to have you here with just the kind of push I need:love: !

Hey Christopher, I know about the Mickey Mouse ears:D , perhaps I adjust this later, but he will be mainly seen from the side…thanks for the links, I’ve looked for something like the second one, I’m always eager to start with some realism first! And indeed I’ve made a quick zBrush-session for the suit, always handy when it comes to folds and creases, I show some wireframes later!

Thanks for the feedback and I wish you all a good day!

Hello Sabie…

hmm hmm… with this hair cut… maybe you could do a transparent helmet not ? useful for him… I think…

seriously, about tubes… that not make me feel Mickey… sincerly, I like as you do :deal:

#158

Good Morning Sbrina!

About my suit comment. The thing is that this suit is sort of watertight but not totally watertight if you know what i mean. the suit needs to be quite roomy for the guy to move around and gets filled with air pumped inn to the helmet. When you get under vater the pressure from outside squeeze out the air. giving a really funny squized look. couldn’t find any good pictures fore you but here are a cuple i hope explain what I mean.

Cateuit look is a No-No on male divers! But highly desirable on female ons.:buttrock:

I kind of liked this one to.

esecially fond of the two forarmsize tubes going straight innto the guys nostrils! This guy will have no shortage of air for sure!

anyway you are doing a great job Girl so what ever way you want to portray this will be fine with me.

Laurents idea could actually be fine. I mean to have the helmet like now only make the whole thing out of glass…
could be cool.

#159

Waouw… I don’t saw that before… the last ref of Per is fantastic ! :wip:

(if Sabie don’t use it… maybe for me ? :scream:… thanks Per…)

Good morning Sabrina!

I love the idea of having the girl holding an old scratched up and battered version of that photograph in her hand! Maybe through the suit you can only partly see his face, maybe only his eyes… But you could tell that they are the same eyes as on the photograph… I don’t know… I’m just rambling… !

Keep it up!
