Steampunk Myths and Legends Entry: richard shuping
k here are my ideas,
1 im going between a jack and the beanstalk, where jack buys a golden disket, or record, and when he plays it on his player, it erupts into fiberoptic wires and assends into the heavens where a giant robot comes down with his mechanical steampowered golden chicken on his sholder
2 johney appleseed, where johney has a mech, it plants trees,
3 john henry, john fights a monster of a machine maybe even be a little bionic himself, but not sure, i would think that john should be all human but ripped like arnold when he was mr universe and the machine would be nuts,
ill go brainstorm more, maybe get these stories and read into them more, im really excited
Hey Rich,
You’ve always got a crazy imagination so I’m excited to see what you sketch up. Best of luck in the competition buddy.

k down to two now, i am torn between john henry and johnny appleseed. with john henry, man vs machine right when john passes the machine and having this huge overbering beast screaming in agony because it would be arrogant, and couldnt believe that a puny human could match it, let alone beat it, i really want it fierce, lumbering, might be man controled or not, but red screaming billowing steam and smoke as if its about to fly appart at the seams, rivits peaking barely staying in, just to keep up with john henry, who is looking foward to the goal at hand, keeping the american and human spirit alive with every blow of his 20 pound hammer. im going to work on thumbs tonight after i go get steel drivin man from the library. there are also some museums i want to go see this weekend, if i pick this one.
then there is the peaceful tranquil story of johnny appleseed, peaceful that there really is no enemy in that story he was just a really nice guy who wants to help out everyone, plant trees only for this i want a mech im talking about a nursary excavation/construction walking city. preping the land, going around planting trees. all in one, must have everything inorder to do what it has to do. maybe a sign in the foreground with “bring you a better tomarrow” with a cheesin johnny on there with a thumbs up and in the back ground you see the moster mech lumbering processing the land, preparing it for the planting of orchards and trees. or multiple machines doing the work for him. i really want this to be in the morning, with the morning dew and fog rolling over the hills as the sun is breaking behind the viewer, just like i have seen when i would go riding my bike in indiana when i was living up there. also found some books on him that im reading.
ill read tonight and make my decision,
this is so much fun

Your two choices sound like they’ll make great pieces. I personally like your first idea with John Henry. It seems like that piece with have a lot of energy and something you can do showing off cool steam pistons and sweet silhouettes. Looking forward to seeing some thumbnails.
