Steampunk Myths and Legends Entry: Paul Haynes
Well here we are again. Here is an initial sketch for my steampunk entry. I’m going for the Trogan horse. The aim is to have this ‘horse’ being walked through the gates of Troy with all the Trogans celebrating (a tall order but that is the aim)
Good luck to one and all
Paul
Second sketch of Trojan horse. A mix of traction engine and horse armour. I aim to have the head articulated so that the overall impression is that the ‘horse’ was a siege engine of some sort, spraying steam and using the forehead spike(s) to damage the city battlements.
An initial layout to get the feel for a scene. The idea will be to have the ‘horse’ entering through the gates of troy.
Good luck to all
Playing with the ‘horse’ design a bit. Thought I’d add this sketch showing the ‘spear skirt’. I’m looking now to firm up on the design, then review the overall layout to fix my idea. Lots of work to do.
Good luck to all (GLTA)
Go for it Johan.
Would be interesting to see how each of us progresses (I usually dont finish these comps but I’ll give this one a good go). I know of another doing the trojan horse but having a walking horse.
An improved layout. The foreground needs working on. But I may have my initial idea in place. The walls of Troy will be a mix of stone and iron supports and a smattering on chimneys.
Ahh my final sketch. I’m quite pleased with the overall idea of it (though not sure on the tethered balloon at top right, I may replace with smoke). It does lack detail for the foreground and inside the city walls but that will come later (Ive some reference material to go through… trawled the local library). Once again quite pleased
I’ll go for this view and see how it comes together.
Comments gratefully received.
Good luck to all.
Looking really good!
This is gonna be a hell of a mighty piece but you’re gonna have a lot of work rendering everything out
Have fun!
Whilst browsing a book I came across a three wheeler steam engine (could do 20mph). Too good an idea to miss so I’ll add a few redesigns as Trojan chariots. I’m really piling on the modelling but I’m almost there.
Good luck to all
Thanks Johan…I’ve really given myself a lot to do (always take too big a bite) and now I’ve added a chariot too. Oh well! should keep me out of trouble
Have been going round in circles over the chariot idea. Finally managed to find a way ahead so here is the basic model of the ‘engine’ end of the chariot. Thanks to stephensons rocket for the steam piston idea
NIce dynamic composition.Maybe Some peoplez in the foreground or around the horse could increase even more the depth and depict the hugeness of this horse.Good luck & have fun
Thanks Remko for your comment. I agree with you there. I’m hoping to add a couple of the chariots to the foreground and other bits and pieces. Thinking about the people at the moment…may end up as steam powered soldiers.
Update to the chariot for use within the final scene. Its coming together quite well but more work to do on the ‘cabin’ part of the model. I may set this aside for now and concentrate on the population… a major weak part for me…though I may go for ‘steam’ powered robots.
Good luck to all
A quick play with Troy’s walls etc. Lots of work but I now have a reasonable idea how it will come together (too many uprights for a start)…lots of pipes and ironwork to add
Good luck to all…have fun
