Latest Update: Work In Progress: Galatea’s Myth

First, i want to say sorry for my bad english… so, I’m sorry.

Now, this is mine first time in a challenge and i’m traying to do the best i can with this illustration.

I’m recreating the Galatea’s myth. In roman mythology, the king of Chipre, Pygmalion is made into a sculptor who fell in love with an ivory statue he had crafted with his own hands. In answer to his prayers, the goddess Aphrodite brought it to life and united the couple in marriage.
To made de illustration I searched inspiration in Botticelli’s paintings, special in Birth of Venus. And I found inspiration in every neoclassic Venus paintings.

In the illustration I created a scene, where I have the three characters. The blacksmith first, the robot Galatea, and a personal-futuristic version of Venus. I’m trying to express all the myth in one image. The blacksmith is giving his back to Galatea. His hands indicate he just finished the perfect female robot, but he isn’t happy. You can see the pain in his eyes, because its only a robot and nothing more. At the same time he can’t see the goddess Venus answering his prayers. She held out his hand to Galatea (I took this idea from Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam) The flours below Venus are Myrtus, Venus’s sacred plants and symbol of eternal love. Is a symbolism of the blacksmith’s love to Galatea.
And the background, its thought to complete the illustration, not to create a real and detailed workshop. Like the background in The Last Supper,

Thats all. I hope you like it, and good luck to everyone.

I really like it so far. However, I cant see the steampunk aesthetic yet. This looks pretty high-tech to me.
