Steampunk Myths and Legends Entry: Joana Garrido
Aye… going slow here.
Now I have to choose between the “rich royal” or the “classy noble” palettes
The costume has little to do with the north-african so far. And probably will stay this way.
Only have to fix some obvious problems.
I think I should start doing the furniture/set.
Nice work on the clothing so far! At first, I didn’t even realize that the right one was textured! Maybe a touch of color as an accent could help - some gold, or a colored ascot instead of white, something like that. But don’t think that that means I must like the left one better: Either one could work, depending on what the whole environment is. Are you just texturing as you go or do you have some rough layout/composition/palette sketches to figure out those things for your entire piece? (And if not, you might want to consider doing that, as it would give you a roadmap and save you from the trouble of texturing things twice!
)
Good luck!
Really nice modeling and texturing for the clothes! Both colorings works well so far, the red one being the most traditional I think. As Walrus I think that the bright one could be beautiful with just some details in color, blue?
Also I suppose once you texture him he will probably look older so no comments on that. Great work so far!
First of all, thanks for the comments. They are being quite helpful.
I am considering on adding some more artifacts on the scene, but I think I will keep the bird on his hand.
Not really a child. He died when he was 24 years old, so he looked quite young
It’s hard to get “whitish” materials without looking incomplete (although yes, this is incomplete
) From the references I find, usually royal male moroccan costumes are quite frugal, not much embroidery or such. And the materials look quite rough, natural. But I intent on putting that kind of details.
I found one nice white costume (I don’t think it is moroccan) which I like in terms of tones. Let’s see if I can get the link.
Hopefuly the image will get more consistency as the details start to sit together in the objects of the decor. And for that I have some references too, but need to understand how they will work as a group. Even if it will part too far from the theme, it’s allright. I need to practise anyway
Thanks a lot again for the feedback guys!
What’s new:
- Changed the camera
- A different lighting approach
- New modeling: chair, table and some artifacts
I know it is going apart from the theme (has it ever been near?), but I intent at least to have it almost finished.
Let’s see about that
The clothes will be different as well.
From your website I can tell this is going to be really cool,
your art is so eerie!
Good luck!
Very nice progress, Joana! I am loving the costume. I think it will be cooler if the figure has some mechanical hand to add to his mystery. Or a mechanical bird perching on his arm. Or even both.
Nice progress! Are you having fun with this challenge?
Dear Jerome: I was indeed thinking of a mechanical bird. But maybe that is too obvious? I will be happy just to finish this, I am not worried anymore to being faithful to the Steampunk subject.
I am having fun, and I would like to have some time to the “other” challenge as well
How about you?
I am trying to find the time to continue with it. Sigh. I have been feeling very exhausted lately. Wondering where all my energy has gone to.
I also love to join the other contest. It sounds more fun to work on!
Maybe the guy can have a mechanical body? Maybe that’s why he was missing during all those years. Mechanical body stuck to a mechanical chair keeping him alive as he issues commands from his ‘throne’.
Pretty nice work on the kettle, the texture is terrific! looks like a real old object…
Thank you! A classical portrait is indeed my intention
Ahh thanks… I just think the lower end of the feet looks too clean. I’ll try and change that.
Yesterday I did a quick test of the props on the scene and oh my… you cannot see all those details. Well…
Very nice work so far Joana, the kettle is very convincing ! keep us updated with such great work :bounce:
