Yes, I should have posted a reference with his face. I will do it later.
The clothes… mmm. I would like to show some mix, some blending of styles. That can turn out interesting or a complete “craperie”. I already did some doodles, but I need to see some actual geometry to see if it works.
Thanks for the comment. See you around ehehehe!
PS: one interesting fact: people were so anxious for him to get back to the country that they actually did a painting of him young and another that shows how he would look older. Kinda before-after thing. Isn’t that awesome?
Your concept sounds really cool and original, nice And the head model is great!
I think the Sebastião weight need to be on his left arm, in a more reflexive gesture. Perhaps you need some sort of clock ( maybe a sand clock) in the last stage before the start the steam machine that will return the life to Sebastião, only a idea Again, nice work and looking forward for more updates!
my only critic is the Sebastião Head got to young features i mean he might had a few hard times in the desert and facing lions in Africa and that stuf some aging and scars would make him tougher and more King! but i may be drawing wrong conclusions since is such an early wip…
Nice work on the clothing so far! At first, I didn’t even realize that the right one was textured! Maybe a touch of color as an accent could help - some gold, or a colored ascot instead of white, something like that. But don’t think that that means I must like the left one better: Either one could work, depending on what the whole environment is. Are you just texturing as you go or do you have some rough layout/composition/palette sketches to figure out those things for your entire piece? (And if not, you might want to consider doing that, as it would give you a roadmap and save you from the trouble of texturing things twice! )
Good luck!
Really nice modeling and texturing for the clothes! Both colorings works well so far, the red one being the most traditional I think. As Walrus I think that the bright one could be beautiful with just some details in color, blue?
Also I suppose once you texture him he will probably look older so no comments on that. Great work so far!
First of all, thanks for the comments. They are being quite helpful.
I am considering on adding some more artifacts on the scene, but I think I will keep the bird on his hand.
Not really a child. He died when he was 24 years old, so he looked quite young
It’s hard to get “whitish” materials without looking incomplete (although yes, this is incomplete ) From the references I find, usually royal male moroccan costumes are quite frugal, not much embroidery or such. And the materials look quite rough, natural. But I intent on putting that kind of details.
I found one nice white costume (I don’t think it is moroccan) which I like in terms of tones. Let’s see if I can get the link.
Hopefuly the image will get more consistency as the details start to sit together in the objects of the decor. And for that I have some references too, but need to understand how they will work as a group. Even if it will part too far from the theme, it’s allright. I need to practise anyway
Very nice progress, Joana! I am loving the costume. I think it will be cooler if the figure has some mechanical hand to add to his mystery. Or a mechanical bird perching on his arm. Or even both.
Nice progress! Are you having fun with this challenge?
Dear Jerome: I was indeed thinking of a mechanical bird. But maybe that is too obvious? I will be happy just to finish this, I am not worried anymore to being faithful to the Steampunk subject.
I am having fun, and I would like to have some time to the “other” challenge as well
I am trying to find the time to continue with it. Sigh. I have been feeling very exhausted lately. Wondering where all my energy has gone to.
I also love to join the other contest. It sounds more fun to work on!
Maybe the guy can have a mechanical body? Maybe that’s why he was missing during all those years. Mechanical body stuck to a mechanical chair keeping him alive as he issues commands from his ‘throne’.
