Latest Update: Final Image: Don Quixote

#2

hi,

very late but still trying to compete in this competition, due to some unfortunate events (hello financial crisis) I have some free time on my hands, and will try yo knock something out in a week.

My Topic is “Don Quixote, or Don Quijote” which is an old grumpy knight who fights some scary windmills. I hope its a well known legend, otherwise I will explain more.

I’m still deep down modeling. here is a wing from the windmill.

#3

quick sketch for the composition, more for myself than for anyone else ;p

#4

more windmill modeling

#5

finished the windmill modeling, still needs textures etc…
unfortunately i cant render it in vray since my mashine wont do it. So I hope my new mashine comes here before Friday so I can finish the image.

I started on the main character and will post updates soon.

#6

finally my new machine arrived.

here is an early composition idea.

Finished most of the modeling for the character and the windmills. See how far i can push it till monday.

best,
Hans

unfortunately a little blurred and washed out since its only a 150kb file.

Software: 3ds max,Photoshop

this is my final image for the steampunk challenge.
As a legend i chose “Don Quixote”

wikipedia.

“Published in two volumes a decade apart, Don Quixote is the most influential work of literature to emerge from the Spanish Golden Age and perhaps the entire Spanish literary canon. As a founding work of modern Western literature, it regularly appears at the top of lists of the greatest works of fiction ever published”

I illustrated Don Quixote arriving at the windmills in La Mancha. Shortly after he will mistake the windmills for giants and fight them.

I am pretty happy with the final result, considering my late sign up for this challenge. Modeled in 3ds Max and post production in Photoshop.

I used some textures from cgtextures.com and google Images and got some material ideas from vray-materials.de

Thank you,
Hans
